Or is this a bit childish and she needs to move on...

It was DP's birthday at the weekend. He was 24. We had a small party with his parents and siblings. His sis hasn't brought his present to party, and wants us to come round on Tuesday Night to get it.

We get to her flat on Tuesday, she is having a bbq for her mates and invites us to stay for some food. (we don't get on with any of her mates, so we were sitting on our own - they don't talk to us - we are obviously not popular enough) It's a lot like being in high school.

Anyway she comes out with DP's present, makes a big song and dance about it took her ages to think of something etc etc. He unwraps the present to find a t-shirt with the slogan
'practice safe sex, always use a condiment' It also has a picture of a hot dog and tomato ketchup. DP looked like this hmm

Then she picks it up and shows it to her mates, explaining (even though they all already know) that we have a DS, who was conceived when our condom broke 4 years ago... I was like this angry

I know it is only a t-shirt and that I shouldn't get so worked up about it, but after leaving the bbq to avoid speaking mu mind to her, DP said that she is just being immature and to just ignore it.

But it feels to me like, because of the t-shirt and what it implies, like our DS is a joke that she can laugh about with her friends. I also am thinking that the bbq was a set up so her mates would be there to see the amazing gift. I just feel so angry.

We have never had the best relationship, after DP had dumped one of her friends and then started seeing me, despite her trying to set the two of them up again. She was not happy that we had a baby before her, even though she is a couple of years younger. She also does not approve of the fact that we had DS(he is now four) and are only now deciding to tie the knot. Whereas she waited til she was married to have a baby, therefore doing it the right way.

I realise I'm probably overreacting, but it has been bugging me for two days now.

So AIBU?

shes a bitch

StealthPolarBear Thu 22-Oct-09 13:08:43

and the jokes not funny

DuelingFANGo Thu 22-Oct-09 13:08:57

she is just being immature and to just ignore it.

diddl Thu 22-Oct-09 13:09:54

Is she between 12 & 16?

overmydeadbody Thu 22-Oct-09 13:10:03

YABU to waste your time and energy getting worked up about this silly little girl.

She wanted the t shirt to cause the reaction it has caused in you. Rise above it. Don't give her the satisfaction of being able to do this to you.

She's a silly little bint. Just ignore her, dump the t shirt in a charity shop and move on.

ninagleams Thu 22-Oct-09 13:10:50

She's a young 22. Ignore it, make her 18 in your mind.

mylovelymonster Thu 22-Oct-09 13:11:28

I'm with SPB. Never go there again. Way over the line. Not childish but bitchy and deliberately insulting.

overmydeadbody Thu 22-Oct-09 13:11:31

Just alugh at how pathetically sad she is, don't get waste any emotional energy on it.

ninagleams Thu 22-Oct-09 13:11:31

Age is an assumption obviously!

OrmIrian Thu 22-Oct-09 13:11:36

I think you need to move on. Don't get riled, just ignore.

MonsterUnderTheBed Thu 22-Oct-09 13:15:25

Thanks everyone.

I know I should just ignore it, but its hard. He is her nephew fgs, her family, not someone that is there for her and her friends entertainment.

I will do my best to ignore. T-shirt is most definitely going in the bin. DP has sent her a txt to say that he thought her gift was rude and insulting and that he would be throwing it out.

Thanks

YABU

And rather hypersensitive

It's a t shirt, she probably thought the slogan was funny, and thinking a whole bbq was set up just to showcase your humiliation (which IMHO was unjustified anyway) borders away from sensitive and into paranoid.

Maybe you'll get on with her better if you loosen up a bit??

prettyfly1 Thu 22-Oct-09 13:18:04

What a little cow bag. Just dont go there any more. Nasty little witch.

diddl Thu 22-Oct-09 13:18:58

If she thought it was funny, OK, but why the performance in front of her friends?

That seems to me to have been done only to humiliate.

If any one can see it another way, I´d love to hear it, tbh.

paisleyleaf Thu 22-Oct-09 13:26:07

I agree with the general consensus that she is deliberately being a bitch.
I can imagine how she'll react to your DPs text too.

Hulababy Thu 22-Oct-09 13:27:13

She sounds very immature and not worth the hassle of getting upset by her.

MonsterUnderTheBed Thu 22-Oct-09 13:29:24

I am not being paranoid about her bbq being at our expense - she loves to do stuff like this. She likes to put on a big show for her friends, forgetting about her family.

DP has said he doesn't care what her reaction is to the text - his feelings were hurt by his sister and he doesn't like what has been implied about his son.

mylovelymonster Thu 22-Oct-09 13:31:36

hopefully her reaction to her brothers' text will be an apology and a bit of growing up

BarbaraBlacksheep Thu 22-Oct-09 13:31:50

'practice safe sex, always use a condiment' It also has a picture of a hot dog and tomato ketchup. DP looked like this hmm

I must say I did chuckle a little but if you truly feel she was trying to upset you, YANBU.

KERALA1 Thu 22-Oct-09 13:31:57

Sounds like one of those dreadful people who say/do something hurtful then whine "but I was only joking". Pathetic. Bet they never see the "joke" if a similar stunt was pulled on them.

Rise above it, move away and have little to do with her. Irrelevant that shes a blood relation so what? Doesnt give her the right to behave badly and remain in your lives whatever.

Chickenshavenolips Thu 22-Oct-09 13:32:10

I wouldn't have anything to do with her again purely based on her shit taste in t-shirts. In reality, didn't she just make herself look like a fool?

paisleyleaf Thu 22-Oct-09 13:33:12

I think her reaction to the text will be 'oooooo-ooooo' like, can't take a joke.
Take no notice.

MonsterUnderTheBed Thu 22-Oct-09 13:34:42

No, I think the problem is that her friends will laugh along with her at whatever she laughs at etc [sheep]

So, they were laughing along with her at us, so she will think she is more funny than ever.

But yes, I will give it no more thought. I will move on and ignore her nonsense.

BrokkenHarted Thu 22-Oct-09 13:37:32

She is being totally unfair. YANBU

People, keep age out of it please. I am younger than twenty two and would not act like that.
