AIBU?

to get rid of the toys that really piss me off, even if DD still plays with them?

E.g. Fuzzy Felt. It is the bane of my life. I always seem to have a bit of bloody fuzzy felt stuck to me, every corner of the house seems to be full of the damn stuff, and DD just seems to get it all out of the box, spread it round the main walkways and then go off to play with something else. Grrrr!

Same can be said of many other of DDs toys, which all seem to be minute, totally unsafe for nearly crawling DS, and surprisingly adhesive to clothes!!!!!

AIBU to just surreptitiously rid the house of them? Maybe DD won't even notice !

yanbu - I regularly do a cull when the dcs are at school and they rarely notice - and they don't have loads of toys so it's not because they have so many they wouldn't miss a few iyswim

I have packed up DS's fuzzy felt and hidden it. I get it out for him occasionally and he must sit down at the table to play with it. I also have a younger one so I don't want her eating it!

Other toys that would be dangerous to a baby live in DS's room.

MadameDefarge - I'm with you re. the lego. I thought we were ok cos Duplo isn't too bad, and then my parents gave DD some proper lego. Argh!

I think YABU to get rid of things your daughter still plays with.

You have to make her put things away before moving on to the next thing.

Or, as suggested, make sure she plays at the table with it.

Undercova - I feel your pain.

Polly Pocket and her teeny-weeny-takes-ages-to-put-on-dresses and teeny tiny shoes suddenly made a left turn into the bin the other day even though my dd plays with them on and off. Sticky pieces of tiny pointlessness.

Bloody things. Best thing is - she hasn't even noticed they have gone!

What I do is put toys away without their knowledge and if they don't notice for four weeks it takes a one way ticket to the tip or, if good, the charity shop.

Lego (shudder), is evil.

Esp. on bare wooden floorboards and unshod feet....

Playdoh is the work of the devil. End of.

As are craft kits that say "Age 3-6" on them but you actually need to be Mister Maker's Apprentice to get anything remotely interesting out of them...

'You have to make her put things away before moving on to the next thing'. That's what I thought - turns out DD thinks differently .
But seriously, we do have endless confrontations conversations about clearing away, but after much nagging, usually the odd toy gets thrown in the general direction of the toybox, and I try not to burst yet another blood vessel!

'Sticky pieces of tiny pointlessness'. Couldn't have said it better myself, RainRainGoAway.

YANBU

I hide it then when I htink that they have forgotten it, throw stuff like that away. Fuzzy felt is history.

I loved Fuzzy Felt.

Could never throw my childrens toys away as they have memories like elephants for all the things that they have ever had!

I've done it with books that get on my tits, and I've hidden the bloody Scalextric, and any Hotwheels type car track that takes half an hour to put together and 5 minutes to break ....

I have given toys to the School Fair, only to have the DSs spot them and say "look, we've got one of those"

Get rid of it. Children move on. I've just thrown out all the incomplete jigsaws which they thought was fine. But have also culled alot of ones that just irritated me and board games, that just get trashed rather than played with have gone to the charity shop

We don't have Fuzzy Felt yet, but we do have a number of vile battery-operated toys which send my blood pressure sky-rocketing within about 30 seconds of DS starting to play with them.

They're mostly hidden in the Chest of Forgotten Toys and will be freecycled when I move.

Is that mean? The most banal and annoying books are also safely tucked away. I figured that them just quietly going AWOL would be less traumatic for DS than seeing Mummy repeatedly jumping up and down on them/ripping them into tiny pieces...

oops - bought fuzzy felt for a friends daughter recently - mum and child seemed to like it.

I 'hide' things in the charity bag for a few weeks until I'm sure they're not desperately in love with them, then they're gone. They have spotted stuff in charity shops though, and said "that's just like the one we've got!"... "yes, dear, isn't it? Anyway...". Definitely the most boring (Noddy) books get 'lost' quite quickly. Ditto books that make noises, and toys that make loud noises and don't have an 'off' button. What a mean mother!

YANBU.

I threw out the baby / toddler toys my DD had when she was three or four. She is now a hulking nine years old but she'll still pick up and wibble with things belonging to DS aged 2.5.

Even though she has her own room, (DH and I don't!) equipped with DVDs and a desk and loads of art-stuff, and a Wii and all that jazz. Plus she has started to play outside with her friends and she goes to several clubs.

I kid you not, had I kept all her toddler and young-child toys, she'd still be playing with them occasionally, even the Teletubbie house, the Barbie castle and the V-tech things which teach basic phonics.

One has to draw a line.

I hate all kids toys. Is that allowed? I waited for DH to take them out recently and then took a big black bag into the play room and dumped 50% of cars, everything broken, bits of lego, anything with bits missing, fuzzy felt and anything else that irritated me when I looked round. God it was theraputic.
