to want to write a xmas pesent list for dd

I know it's really early to be asking about christmas but my family tends to get everything sorted well in advance. My DD will be 6 months at xmas and is the first grandchild and I'm the first one of my mates to have a child. The main reason I am wanting to write a list for her is that when she was born people got us loads of clothes which were out of season ie a summer outfit for 6 months etc. We had to take a load of stuff back and we don't have much space for things we don't need. P.S with money and space being tight it would also really help getting more essentuial stuff- i.e. clothes and weaning stuff. However, I don't want to appear ungreatful and rude nor do I want to take the fun out of shopping for people. What do you think?

Most people I know are happy to be given ideas for babies as they are totally stuck what to buy.

It would NBU in my family.

I think you should do a list for ref if anyones asks what they should get. For everyone else let them enjoy finding a present for you dd, if its really not appriate then you can always take them back.

ps i know what you mean about early shopping, my brother has alrwady got my dds pressie.

nbu, plus you can make suggestions but they can do the detail. So for example if you say she needs jumpers fine, but other people get to pick the actual ones.
Better than loads of cuddly toys and dungaree outfits you'll never use
I have done one for DS (mainly for my mum who asks for one as she also shops for DS for my grandparents if that makes sense). We are overrun with toys, so I have suggested some more stuff for his train track, books, pjamas, bedding, no doubt he'll also need clothes

I wouldn't go so far as to give people a list but I would have a list ready in my head if you know what I mean. We tend to do that anyway in my family. I have 3 sisters and between us we have 7 children. We all tend to ask for suggestions. It makes life easier all round. Bear in mind though that for your DD's first Xmas some people will spoil her totally!

Lists are expected in my family, so I would say it is a good thing.

I wouldn't tell friends though, unless they asked, in which case I would ;list essential things I you need. It is nice to recieve hings you wouldnd never have thought of or chosen yourself though.

At 6 months I would just tell everyone not to bother with presents at all. It's not like she'll remember lol

Lists are great - if people pay attention.

Every year i get asked for suggestions for dd from BIL & SIL, tell them the useful but lovely things dd needs/would like....and they turn up with plastic tat toys that are rarely used and dumped in a cupboard along with last years....

I have said to people that I have a list if they want one. Most choose not to, but at least I have tried. MIL always gets the list, just so she can avoid getting anything I would like

my dd2 is about the same age as your dd, I got the clothes in a bigger size that were unsuitable because they were for summer as well, they all went back and swapped for vest.

I find most people appreciate being given an idea what to get because nobody likes to buy things that are not going to be used. So my dm Ive been very specific with and told her to get the playmobil plane (shes easily distracted she needs it ) with other people I just point in the right direction and say "she would like something like a ..." but I do tend to have a vague idea of what their budget is.

A list wouldn't work what if you ended up with ten of the same sort of thing?

thanks so much for the replies- I'm going to send an 'if you're struggling for ideas list' email to family as suggested. I think I'll let my friends get what they want but hint that she has too many toys.

thanks
