I have no one to blame but myself as it was new two years ago and I've never cleaned it... ever blush

Is this normal?? Will the oven cleaning persons recoil in disgust?!

What is the limit for oven slovenliness... come on mumsnet barometer... I need answers!

No. Fantastic company called www.ovenu.com (or .co.uk) were absolutely brilliant.

Life is too short to stress yourself about your bloody oven!

Fruitbatlings Fri 09-Oct-09 21:45:36

I've been thinking about this.
What do they charge roughly? Do you know?

PinkPussyCat Fri 09-Oct-09 21:49:48

Best £50 I've ever spent, my oven was like new when they'd finished. Do it!!

stressybessy Fri 09-Oct-09 21:50:51

I think it's from £30 which seems a good deal, I'd gladly pay more than that to just not have to do it myself!!

YANBU
You will not lie on your death bed and wish you'd cleaned your oven yourself.

I think I paid £75-80. That was for cleaning the oven and hob and replacing the light in the oven.

Truly it was fantastic. It looked as if I had bought new appliances.

WartoScreamo Fri 09-Oct-09 21:52:49

I get DH to do ours, but if I knew of someone who could come and make it sparkle, I would pay! Honestly - life is too short for any job that involves rubber gloves.

Been a few years since mine got done blush, think of it as providing others with employment in these testing times hmm..

TrickOrNinks Fri 09-Oct-09 21:54:24

Oh YANBU at all!

Must get this done it's impossible to do it myself with an inquisitive toddler wink

fledtoscotland Fri 09-Oct-09 22:07:32

YANBU

try www.cookaburra.co.uk best £50 i've spent. cant even consider chemicals for cleaning with a) the kids around or b) my eczema

PinkPussyCat Fri 09-Oct-09 22:09:16

Ah yes... inquisitive toddler. That was my excuse reasoning toowink

Seriously, you won't regret it. I have vowed never to clean it myself again it was so sparkly!

Morloth Fri 09-Oct-09 22:09:39

I get someone to clean my entire house cause I am too bloody lazy. I have the time, I just can't be arsed.

So you are definitely not being unreasonable IMO.

ChunkyMonkeysMum Fri 09-Oct-09 22:10:38

YANBU........just today I was contemplating cleaning my oven (it's been a while blush), but then thought better of it grin

redsofas Fri 09-Oct-09 22:13:13

i may have to look this up!!!! grin didnt know it existed!

VicarInaBooTu Fri 09-Oct-09 22:15:54

i got a quote for mine last year - its was £70! one day - im going to do this.

on another note its really nice to find other slovenly non oven cleaning folk....i feel im among friends!

mine was brand new 3 years ago. ive cleaned it - (about once a year.)

my reasoning is no germs can live in there - it gets too hot!

stressybessy Fri 09-Oct-09 22:23:31

Phew - I thought I was going to get told I was bourgeoise and I should be scrubbing it with Vim after every meal smile

I will be persing the small ads and links - I feel quite excited now!!!

Tiredmumofdjandbabies Fri 09-Oct-09 22:24:28

no pay someone

awful job

fledtoscotland Fri 09-Oct-09 22:24:41

my mother freaked that i paid someone to clean my cooker (and that it had only been cleaned once in 4yrs blush)

Meglet Fri 09-Oct-09 22:27:57

yanbu. I've given up trying to do it with 2 pre-schoolers. I'm convinced they will die if they get a whiff of the chemicals. It hasn't been done in about 2 years.

This has reminded me to get someone in to do it and get grandma to take them out while it's being done.

Dee78 Fri 09-Oct-09 22:37:57

yanbu, it's the best £30 I've spent in ages. They take all the stuff out to their van to clean it so it doesn't even smell or dirty your sink. I get mine done every six months. The DH thinks it's a waste but has been told that he can clean it if he doesn't want to pay it. It works out at just over a pound a week round here (up north) so it's well worth it.

ABitBatty Fri 09-Oct-09 22:38:53

We attempted to clean our oven last weekend. What a joke. Couldn't make tea as it still had the stuff on...so we rinsed it off half cleaned and shelved it for 'another day' I would pay someone to do it without question if I could afford it. Until then last months pizza will remain!

busybutterfly Fri 09-Oct-09 22:40:31

YANBU- I second Cookerburra too.
