in other words the people at the top are not always the best people to be there and have sometimes got there through nepherious (sp) means.

DW and I invest in companies for a living and agree. Many very large companies have dreadful managers who seem to have risen to the top despite their uselessness. Mainly by political manouevering rather than being good at their job.

When I think about the people who my dh works for and how they treat the workers. If they had to do what the workers do they wouldn't last two minutes, but they sit in their ivory towers issuing their dictats and their 'new' shift patterns that are almost impossible to work and they are untouchable. If anybody complains, they just pass it to one of their underlings. If their way doesn't work, it doesn't matter because they willl no way take them blame and will still go home with their big cat wages. These are people that I have known for years, they aren't clever or skilled people but as seeyou says, have been particularly clever at playing the game for their own ends rather than being innovating or hard working.
