AIBU?

To think if you give a 3 year old girl a pair of fairy wings as she arrives at a party you should let her keep them?

hmm yes it would have been nice to let them keep it, she could have done it instead of party bag or something if worried about the cost

I think she should have been clear in the beginning that they were hired (or whatever) and could not be taken home. that way, the kids would not have been upset.

Maybe she's going to have her own adult fairy party tonight ewe??

Yanbu. Would expect it to be made clear from beginning or let them keep.

maybe she is having a ladies night later in the day

but yeah, either give them away instead of party bags or say "here are some fairy wings you can borrow for the party games"

maybe she did hire them

to be fair, it mgiht eb the first birthday party she has done and simply didnt realise this might happen, especially if she has just 1 angelic little dd who doesnt say boo to a goose.

That's a terrible and ill thought out thing to do! Who couldn't have predicted that the girls would have thought they could keep them?

agree with the others that a warning would have (possibly but not definitely) averted the tears. but I expect the mum in question also realises that - now. poor woman. we all live and learn.

oh you'd have to be thick not to realise that's a daft thing to do to 3 year olds - even a 12 year old would be upset if not made clear

If that had happened at a party DD went to, she would have been upset. I presume they were hired but it wod have been a good idea to exain the children were borrowing them.

She missed a trick.
Make the wings.
Doubles as a party activity and a take home present.
I have very vivid memories of DD's friend's dad's face while escorting his DS home in a lovely pair of pink sparkly wings

Ah, bless your wee dd.

Bet the host is rueing the wings idea with a big glass of wine right now and dreading her she'll be known as the woman who made the entire party of 3yr old girls cry!
