AIBU?

To doctor my passport photo?

I am in the happy position of finally renewing my passport after ten years of hiding it from people and not letting them see the frankly hideous photo in it (over-plucked eyebrows and ill-advised attempt at a sideswept fringe)...

However

I have put a fair bit of weight on the last year or two which I'm trying to shift, and it really shows in my face. AIBU to photoshop out my hint of puffy chin, especially as I intend to rectify the situation long before I need to renew the passport again? This could be the last time I have a passport before I start looking like an old crone- I know it's vain, but is a bit of tweaking unreasonable?

I have no idea whether it is illegal or not, but it sounds like something that would be illegal!

Almost certainly illegal!

YABU

It's supposed to be what you look like not what you wish you looked like

also pretty sure it would be illegal.

Very illegal.. I might see if I can get away with a picture of Alexa Chung next time I renew!

tie your hair up really tightly on top of your head.

You could "lose" your passport, or put it through the washing machine when you want to change the picture, however you'll have to pay again for a new one.

pmsl at Fruitshoot...

The rules governing passport photos are pretty strict now; not even sure you could use one that has been home-printed.

As Michael McIntyre says...

I photoshopped the scar on DS2's head from a vivid red to something less noticeable. I then had it professionally printed. It was fine.

I don't think this is as bad as editing out an extra chin though.

Unfortunately, I think it is illegal, but if not I would definitely change my photo (I look like an extra from Bad Girls) haha

You cannot use a photo that is home printed, you certainly can't use one that's Photoshopped. It will not be accepted.

From the website for passports:

"Digital enhancement is not acceptable as this can result in the capture of an inaccurate biometric."

Shame though.

You could get into so much trouble. Passports are government property. Doctoring your photo ammounts to vandalising government property.

I really don't think it's worth it, do you?

I read somewhere that Charlize Theron has a picture of herself playing her character in 'Monster' in her passport...
