DD (17) has recently got a new boyfriend, which is fine. However, his name is Chris, which is a name I hate, and would rather not have to say a lot, especially if he is going to come to the house all the time. I told DD last night that if she wanted to bring him round, then I would be calling him Luke, which I think is an acceptable name (and very nice - it was going to be DD's name, had she been a boy). Very unreasonably, I thought, she flew off the handle at this, even though I know that she likes the name Luke.
Now I have three options:

  1. Call the boy Luke when he is at the house
  2. Call him "Mr " when he is here
  3. Don't let him come to the house.

He is a lovely boy, but I just can't stand him name!
So, is it unreasonable?

Actually, I think you should call him Mr if you really can't say Chirs.
Calling him Luke wouls be jsut odd, and make you look batty.

Just avoid calling him anything.

If you want to get his attention just say "Oi, you".

Or whistle at him.

I don't understand why everybody thinks I'm joking - I'm really not. I posted on here, because I thought you were a sensible bunch. I don't like the name Chris because it starts with a crisp sound, which sounds like somebody biting an apple.

What's his full name? If it's Christopher then you could possibly choose another derivative from that name. Christ perhaps? Or Topher?

My friend's DS is called Christopher, but when he was little he couldn't say it and said "Tito" instead. Would that do?

Perhaps you could pretend you're all Jane Austen fans and call each other Kind Sir, and Mr so and so...

ElieRM, I feel rather upset by your insinuation that I would spend time 'winding you up' as you put it. I will reiterate that I posted on here because I thought that you would give me sound views.
I think that the Jane Austen idea is rather good, although I am more of a Hardy/Marlow fan, and therefore will be re-reading their literature for ideas on naming house-guests.
The boyfriend's full name is Christopher.

If you're for real, then you're about as unreasonable and downright rude as I've ever come across. How dare you presume to rename someone? What sort of intolerant control freak are you. Your manners are disgusting.
