AIBU?

To not understand why some people think they have to

post an AIBU about some inane minutia of their lives? It's on par with facebook/twitter updates, where someone feels they've got to inform you they've just had to go out and get some milk before they have their cereal. Some f/b updates I've seen even just have 'hmmmm' or '//////' and people reply!! Perhaps it's just the people I know

Or have I got this all wrong, and it's really about people just wanting to chat and know someone else is out there?

For some people MN is all they have, some people see MN as their family.

I think YAB(a little)U.

I know I can't chat shit to my DP it drives him nuts, you can on here though

YABU - it may seem like inane minutia to you, but may be important to others. Anyway, the more pointless the better as far as I'm concerned - makes it even more entertaining!

I was really thinking of the 'shall I eat the whole bag of doritos' type of threads, that don't say anything in particular, and wondered why someone might feel they want to ask that on here? Not slagging them off for putting it on a thread though...well, I can hardly talk when I'm typing this can I??

Pointless works for me. Get over yourself.

Shouldn't you be on Netmums?

I think they post them for fun and laughs. Obviously not everyone finds the same thing amusing but I don't think you should let it upset or worry you.

Report
Rantagonist · 25/09/2009 14:08

Lol it doesn't upset or worry me, only to the extent that the irony hasn't escaped me that I'm on here! and it's not that I'm being a thread snob, perhaps it's just somekind of MN banter that's escaped me?

If MN was only a place where you could post on worthy or substantial it would be really fucking dull.

Some ofthe funniest threads start from whim and trivia.

And what is dull to you is not to someone else.
And what is interesting to you is boring as crap to someone else

Except my posts which are always pithy and insightful and much appreciated by all.

YABU- I get a bit annoyed when people start threads like Look At This Really Serious And Upsetting News Story- I Can't Believe There Isn't A Thread About It You Frivolous Bimbos.

Much worse IMO.

TrillianAstra · 25/09/2009 14:52

I am a frivolous bimbo (on MN at least).

It's not as if we can't decide whether to eat the whole bag of Doritos without input, it's that we want to talk about the Doritos, and other lighthearted stuff.

As SardineQueen said recently:

Some of us like to talk about bumsex.

Some of us like to talk about space docking.

Some of us like to talk about the merits of very very slightly different grocery delivery services.

Who are any of us to say who is dull and who is not?

Report
Bleh · 25/09/2009 14:54

Totally agree with Pag. Would we have the Boob Weighing thread featured in this week's roundup if it was all about seriousness and gravitas? Would we have had the Booble Plate thread? No. It would all be deadly serious and dull and boring and MN would die within two weeks.

Oh yes BoF, totally agree on the "let me link to this awful horrendous news story that you'd rather forget after you've read the first line but have now been scarred for life with and WHY DIDN'T YOU DISCUSS THIS EARLIER YOU FRIVOULOUS NUMPTIES" type threads.

YABU- the Domino's pizza thread (now removed) was fantastic; started out as an inane observation about the lack of quality of their thin crust base, went on to discuss healthy eating and lack thereof, how this reflects on one's value as a parent, moved on to examine German industry profiteering from the holocaust, to boycott certain companies or not, and ended with a debate about the religious American far right and their role in the murder of pro-choice doctors and campaigners. And yet still referred specifically to Domino's in the last post.

That's classy.

I wondered where that thread had gone!!

Quite an impressive feat to get a thread on pizza crust deleted!!!

Missed the end so not quite sure how it could have gotten that far!
