AIBU?

...to think that all the 'girls' toys advertised on TV are a pile of pink plastic shite?

I only have a 20 month old so the world of Barbie, Sugar Cubes and Hello Kitty is uknown to me. We are strictly CBeebies here but this morning I decided Lazy Town was a pile of poo and I switched over to Fifi. Five minutes of ads and I wanted to hack my head off. What a heap of glittery, revolting looking cheap plastic arse. Why do they think girls are obsessed with keeping secrets? Why would they need a light-up password protected plastic coated diary that you can plug your mp3 player into? When did Polly Pocket become a miniature tart? When I last saw her she was a little girl. Isn't it enough of a faff to wash your own hair without washing tossing Barbie's as well?

Luckily dd is way to young to take any notice but it's given me the hump now. We're going back to CBeebies. I can't bear it!

I hate the commercial channels for children's tv because of the adverts. Unfortunately, Milkshake (on 5) has some really fantastic programmes on it, so I just grit my teeth and bear the ads.

My 'favourite' is the one for a fashion show for tiny toy dogs dressed in even tinier outfits. Who came up with this concept?

That 'Rose Petal Cottage' advert makes me cringe, 'taking care of my home is a dream, dream, dream' i amso glad i don't have a dughter, i think the 'boys toys' are marginally better becuase there not all sickly sweet and cutsy.

Lucky old me. DD doesn't watch too much telly, what she does is on CBEEBIES and they don't have adverts. She does have around 20 piece of littlest petshop that have been birthday gifts but, they are gradually disappearing without her even noticing. She reads for England, but, some of the books she chooses are a bit suspect too.

When DD used to watch kids TV we would howl with laughter together at the crappy toys.

K'nex is a girls' toy in our house! If the ad showed only boys I'd be more annoyed at that than the pink shite.

Even my dd hates all that pink plastic tat!

And the Lelli Kelly shoes adverts make me (and her) want to barf!!

It really is.
I'm glad I have boys, Knex, Lego and Power Rangers is a lot more fun!

Completely agree with you regarding the girls pink crap, but the boys ads are all WOOAARRRGHGHGH CARS CARS TRANSFORMERS CARS WOOOOOARRRGHGHGH to the point where DD says that the Hot Wheels ad is too 'loud and scary'. She's hardly a precious little petal either.

I've only tried watching CBeebies twice. Both times I turned it off after 5 minutes, as I just couldn't stand all this over-acted hyper-ness.

And I've never tried the other channels at all. My daughter's favourite toy at the moment is an old squash bottle with some rice grains and a football.

I too hate the girls' toy ads. Sadly DD has now decided that CITV is the way to go and will not watch CBeebies any more - she can bloody well quote the ads to me verbatim.

And also quotes the ads for cleaning products that are on kids' tv like cillit bang

She got a Doodle Daisy with birthday money after seeing the ad and it broke the first time she used it.

This will be the first year we get pressurised to buy the advertised shite for xmas.

I hope with all her exposure she becomes sophisticated and cynical and starts to laugh at them soon
