for....... myself
the kids

I am, ahem, 31 now but it really was my favourite childhood toy and I have been wanting one for several years (maybe because I was brilliant on it years ago )

I would give the children a shot of it occasionally

well.............. maybe

I was shocked at how small the one i saw in TRU was the other day. You can get even smaller 'pocket' ones - but this was a standard one.

Then again Wagon Wheels and Kinder Eggs....

I could never get mine to do diagonals properly no matter how slowly and carefully I simultaneusly turned the left and right controllers.

Awwww ABetaDad - did you get little steps?

Report
ABetaDad · 21/09/2009 22:22

Yes tiny little steps that drove me mad.

Is it really possible to get diagonals like they showed in the adverts?

cookielove · 21/09/2009 22:23

they did use to be bigger then what they are now

I hate those things
I could not work it out at all
I think my brain is wired left and right the wrong way round
used to drive mad trying to draw ANYTHING

I could never do a circle. Actually all I did was a queer shaped house

DH bought me one for Xmas last year and it rarely gets played with. Most of the time it gets wrestled from DD2 who's trying to clear the picture by battering it off a table.

Savour the memory

I used one on my degree (fine art). I drew a depiction of the Titanic.

They are amazing. They do do diagonals, but you have to give up hours of your life in order to make it happen.

I have four

Actually, would seem more apt... having four is not something to brag about, I now realise. again.

We got a cyberman one at xmas. I was pretty excited but it's crap and difficult and annoying and no matter how hard you shake it the picture doesn't quite go away.

Get fuzzy felt instead. Or some lego

I made fuzzy felt too

Glad I got an education

mumofdjandbabies- they are so buggered now, you wouldn't want them! ebay still has bargains though

Just googled "Etchasketch masterpieces" and came up with this

Feeling slightly ashamed of my abnormally rigid houses now - the only things I could get the darn thing to draw.

Nooooo! I had a love/hate thing with Etch-a-sketch. I deperately, desperately wanted one, but couldn't actually twirl both dials at the same time due to a disability. Why on earth I wanted something I couldn't do is now beyond me

So I just yearned for one from afar, whilst also hating their very existence and being secretly pleased when friends couldn't draw anything & got fed up with them.

I have got myself DS one of these. We both love this, not quite the same as Etch-a-Sketch but I get a disproportionate amount of pleasure from 'stamping' all the stamps on it and then wiping the eraser across it & watching it all disappear
