Every night we have the same conversation

DH: "What shall we have for dinner?"

Me: "What do you want?"

DH: "Dunno, what do you want?"

Me: "Why do I always have to decide?!"

I'm sick and tired of being the one to make all the decisions about bloody meals !!!!
Why are men so blood indecisive ? It makes me .

I also get pissed off trying to think up new things to cook.

Anyone else have this problem ?

No we used to do but now I 'just' cook faced with no choice unless he expresses a wish has made dh think more.........

I just think about what Ive got in that needs to be used and meal plan around that....for example yesterday nobody fancied a roast dinner so I used some mincemeat and made meatballs and pasta.

Tonight dh was asking what was for tea as the boys and I had had a 'good' lunch we were just having waffles and poached egg with spaghetti....dh doesnt really like it says its a bit 'school dinnery' so he asked for steak pie.

We have actually just cooked a Thai curry, but only cos we saw it on Come Dine With Me last night !!!

Occasionally this makes me hopping cross. It's what comes of marrying someone with no interest in cooking whatsoever.

we do a big weekend cook and freeze so always know what is in freezer

once in a while wee experiment change recipes see what we like (and what we dont like)

Even if DH is cooking he will always ask me 'whats for dinner tonight?' and I tell him 'sausage and mash' etc and he cooks it lol

Sounds like my dp too! Now, I decide what I want to eat all week and then he does as he's told. Otherwise, he would be quite happy with beans on toast - gah.

Tonight we had Thai curry.
Baked spuds tomorrow.
Pasta pesto on Weds.
Veggie toad in the hole on Thursday.
Puy lentil lasagne on Friday, if I can be bothered - otherwise out for a curry!

allaboutme - My DH is like that too. And he thinks he's flippin' Gordon Ramsey and always takes over when I cook too !!! He's done it tonight with the Thai Curry.

I plan a weeks's worth of meals and shop once a week. I suggest that dh looks at the list and if there's anything he especially wants or objects to he has until Monday morning to tell me. Otherwise it's the old 'like it, lump it or leave it' !

Not only could I not be doing with the 'what shall we have' conversation every night, but we'd waste shedloads of food and it would cost us a fortune.

Thing is, I like the idea of meal planning, buy all the bits and bobs I need for the weeks meal, then decide that I don't actually fancy what I've decided to make

I find that if I plan for about four or five days, I can chop and change around a bit providing the ingredients are fresh enough. So if I don't fancy pasta on Weds, I can switch it for Thursday's meal etc.

Sometimes I back dh in a corner of a room and don't let him go until he has decided what we are going to have for dinner tonight. But even then in the course of the conversation he always manages to get side-tracked and start talking about something else. Drives me nuts.

I don't mind deciding 90% of the time. I just don't want to have to do it 100% of the time.

He never ever spontaneously suggests something and cooks it. Ever. Grrrrrrrr.

I don't understand why it is expected that I will decide what happens and when even if DH is going to do it. This, and his poor memory, means that if he does something himself with no input from me and it is wrong or works out badly I still get the blame...

It's the same here. He's so indecisive and doesn't do the shopping so has no idea what's in the fridge/freezer/cupboard anyway.

I hate having to think of what to cook, we end up having the same stuff over and over as I never have the time to think of anything inspiring to make.

I used to fume about this to.
Now I meal plan.
Once a week I sit down and work it all out then pass the list to DH for his approval.
No more staring into the freezer wondering.
And I save money.

And the reason I am sitting upstairs on MN? I am waiting to see how long it will be before DH realises that there is nothing on its way for dinner unless he makes it

I can predict that in half an hour he will have said either

"You know, I do fancy a curry. Shall I order one"

or

"I'll put some jacket potatoes in shall I?"

The only two food related utterances he has made in probably the last five years.
