rather than virtual friends?
How long do you have to be on MN to be a "friend"? Do you all know each other really? Does it matter to you? Does it make you not post on some threads as you feel you are gate crashing a clique? Does me.

Hello purplepeony how are you?
I do know what you mean. I don't fit in most topics, have to say I would love to be in a quice though

I'm in a quice. They're not what they're cracked up to be.

im pretty new to nms and it took me ages to find a thread i felt i could 'drop in on' everyones 'friends' esp the pushchair shed, im a pram a holic and really wanted to chat there but felt like i would have crashed a private party so left

I must admit I do tend to notice the same names coming up all the time, but wouldn't say I have "connected" with anyone, I just add to threads that catch my eye and be done with it. I'm actually pretty crap as I sometimes don't check threads I'm on often

Helloooo!

I am talking mainly about the threads where there are 800 posts and they all seem to know each other intimately and talk to each other as if they know just exactly who they are! (Though maybe that's not such a good idea!)

I have been on here for ages, and don't have any friends really. I know I recognise some folk, some make me laugh, but everyone namechanges so it's hard to keep up.

I hang out mainly in Style and Beauty (being very high up in both, arf) Same names crop up there but we don't greet each other like old mates really

I think you just have to post a lot, that way people get to know you. I have one long running thread where I do what you're talking about, and I've been on MN 6 years! It's nothing to do with how long you've been here, it's how loud you are

CuppaTeaJanice · 21/09/2009 18:09

I've put so many embarrassing posts on here over the last couple of years that I'm glad it's all completely anonymous!!! As far as I know I don't know any mumsnetters in real life and I'd like to keep it that way!

hullygully · 21/09/2009 18:10

I'm going to start a jiggling quice if anyone's interested?

EvilEdnasTwinSister · 21/09/2009 18:11

I haven't been on here very long either and it can come across a bit that way, but I guess it is just a matter of time til you get to know people.

aw. We all feel like that sometimes. especially when you post something and it gets overlooked. You sit there, refreshing, waiting for someone to answer you and wailing "But what about meeeee?!" But the board moves fast and it's easy for posts to be missed. Many people read the posts and don't even notice the poster name!

I suppose those who are on here a lot. ahem. sometimes get noticed in a "what, another post from YOU, do you not HAVE a life" kind of way.

I have been on MN a fair few years now, but just do the whole jojn any thread, write my commentbit regardless of OP, etc.

I do know some MNers in RL too though, so do say hi to them.

There are some mumsnetter's I talk to you as if our mothers were friends and we met at nursery. In fact, i've never met them we've just bonded over finding we have similar interests and senses of humour.
Hang around here long enough and you get to know the character behind the name.

I've been here for about 2 1/2 years and no-one knows me from Adam, and I don't know who that is either. I felt ridiculously chuffed when I got onto the Talk Roundup It was almost like being famous

hecate, good post, esp the 'what about meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee?!'

I sometimes long for a bit of inclusion, when i am feeling really low. yet most other times i am cool with how it is! I like not having to say hi to everyone, like you do on some boards. I can be incognito.

We can be a quiche if you prefer. I was really rather hoping for a flan, but I'm easy.
