AIBU?

To feel a bit nauseous when around my sister and future BIL?

because ALL they address each other as is "honey".

Whether it be in slightly whiney "aren't I being cute" tones, "honnnneeeeeyyyyyyy" or yelled from downstairs to upstairs "HONEEEEEEEEEEEEEEYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY", or even just any time you may want to get the attention of each other, "hun / honey / huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuun"

FFS you have names - USE THEM!

You grumpy thing!

You'd have loathed dh and I when newly weds then. He was very restrained but I got a bit carried away sometimes and once on leaving the in-laws house and being asked by him if I had our train tickets and seat details I said ' you're the reservations rabbit' I think my sil did actually vomit and dh has never forgiven me!

My dp call's me "Luv" occasionally but we have a mutual aversion to anything remotely affectionate in public, usually in private too

Report
Alambil · 19/09/2009 21:35

yes but occasionally is FINE - but EVERY time they address each other or speak?

it's out of control!

Maybe they have dementia and cannot remember each other's name. I think you should be more charitable or buy ear muffs .

YABU

Report
Alambil · 19/09/2009 21:37

definitely ear muffs

she also told me to phone before I go round my mums (she's house sitting) as they're having a "relaxing" weekend...... now, I do NOT want to be walking in on a variation of Honey that I've not heard yet!!!

Hubby & I don´t tend to call each other by our names, but tend to call each other "love".

Using first names seems to be too formal.

I don't think DP has ever called me by my first name when talking to me in all the years I've known him

TrinityRhino · 19/09/2009 21:39

You soppy lot.

DP and I only call each other by our surnames.

thumbwitch · 19/09/2009 21:41

Ah trinity - I wish you could too.

Lewis, I do know what you mean - I kind of object when DH calls me darling in angry voice, it spoils it some. I prefer him to use my name then.

Gosh, DH and I never call each other by our names, usually 'babe' or 'darl'. We almost never call DD by her name either, we usually refer to her as 'the baby' (she's 2.3) or call her 'sausage', 'baby', 'darling' or 'stinky'. Nice . I'm not sure I can even remember DH's name! It's just a habit.

thumbwitch · 19/09/2009 21:44

you stay here, trinity - I'm sure Lewis understands fully and won't mind at all, she knows where it came from.

We always call each other darling. Sometimes I can't remember dh's name!

Alambil · 19/09/2009 21:48

ach, no worries Trinity mate - was just thinking of some really shit platitude to reply with, but didn't, cos they're all shit and nothing will help - by the way, I'm posting your cards on monday... I've not had money for postage til then, I'm so sorry...

perhaps it's just her whiney tones that grates then.... she's REALLY whiney!

Boak at babe.
We're all darling. (Children too.) I think it's lovely when blokes call their sons darling.

I do however call all my collegues honey-bunch, sugar-pie, sausage etc. Don't know why.

Report
scottishmummy · 19/09/2009 21:50

some people have an intonation that grates regardless of what they say

diddl · 19/09/2009 21:52

I don´t like babe, hun, or honey.

But I think constant using first names can seem odd.

I mean if there´s only hubby in the room it´s obvious I´m talking to him!

(Whether or not he´s listening.....)

notnowbernard · 19/09/2009 21:54

Honey-bunch is just WRONG imo

Hey trinity, thinking of you. Glad you are around.

Crankytwanky, I like the father-son darling thing too. My dad does it to my little bro's but DH thinks it's weird.
