I was up until 2am and been up since 5.40 as the pain killers wore off and I am in agony again. I was even tempted to see if ashtons powders would ease the pain lol.

try corsodyl if you can get it... that's a really good anti-bacterial, might help. Not the everyday stuff, the nasty mediciney type one.

Can't you take some more painkillers yet?

Flaming, there is no way I can get appt for today with my dentist. he is so busy as he is a single dentist iyswim? and everyone loves him. I am going to have to tell him on tuesday yes please take the tooth out I cannot cope with the pain every few weeks.

My teeth were fine until I was pg with ds2 and he was a calcium theif.

Can't you ask for an emergency appointment?

Report
TheLadyEvenstar · 17/09/2009 07:02

Flaming the prob is that with ds2 i would have to sit and wait and he hates waiting gets grumpy etc. All dentist will do is give me anti biotics with take 3 days to work, and generally by then the infection has cleared up.

Am going to the dentist this morning and in a state of advanced terror, so I understand..

i had impacted wisdom teeth and found that co-codamol and ibuprofen at the same time were really good.you can get cocodamol at the chemist without prescription.you can get higher dosage ones through your doctor to tide you over until you get to the dentist if you find they help but need a higher dosage. they make some people a little groggy but are worth a try if you can take them with any other medication you may be on or maybe just at night to try to get a bit of sleep.

i also used clove oil which you can get from a dentist, use it with a cotton bud to rub on the gum.tastes horrible but numbs it.oragel doe the same kind of thing.

tooth pain really is horrible, ive had similar problems since having the children.

good luck, i hope it gets sorted soon for you.

Have you got a syringe to squirt the corsodyl right at the problem area? Dh found that helped.

Also cleaning teeth with really hot water.

Mum, i can't use clove oil lol it always makes me ill and has done since i was teeny.

My previous dentist should have dealt with the problems but wouldn't and as a result my new dentist is doing his best but in the meantime i have to suffer.

dont suffer in silence, get to the chemist if you cant get to the dentist, oragel doesnt taste like clove oil and has benzoicane? in which numbs the gums.cocodamol or anything with codeine in will help dull the pain if not take it away for a while for you if youre willing to try something like that.

the chemist does it in low dose form and it also includes paracetamol which helps too.it can definitely be taken alonside ibuprofen.

got to go to work, good luck and let us know how you get on.

Don't take one tablet - you won't deal with the pain effectively that way. Take 2 Nurofen and then 2 hours later take 2 Paracetamol Extra. If you can get some Solpadeine that might be better as it also has codeine in it (is paracetamol based so you can take it with Nurofen)

I sympathise. I'd rather go through childbirth again than have root canal work!

When I had an abcess, I found tonic water calmed the incessant pain remarkably. I found this out by accident, deciding on a lot of G&T to blot out the pain, as you do. The gin made me drunk but it was in fact the tonic water that eased the pain.

Its also useful if you suffer from cramp too. Tonic water that is, not G&T!
