Oh I have. I didn't mean to be though. Not really.

You know when you have a toddler to get in a toddler seat and they are too little to get in unless the door is wide open?

The between baby and child stage where you have to sort of lift the heavy buggers into the seat and usually bang their head or something and you twist your back and it's all very awful.

BECAUSE SOME TOSSER HAS PARKED GIVING YOU NO ROOM TO OPEN THE DOOR FULLY EVEN THOUGH YOU CLEARLY HAVE A CHILD-SEAT.

Ahem.

Well I had a situation like this earlier and I did try to get DS aged 2.4 in without opening the car door fully. Then he hit his head and I lost it trying to cope with the lack of space and opened our car door.

I opened it very carefully until it got to the point where the other car was. and when I saw how little room he had given me I, er, saw red. And pushed let the door swing open with my boot reasonable force behind it.

Got DS in and went to get in myself and saw a 3cm square scrape in the twat's car next to where I had to open the back one.

Did you have any more space on the other side of the car... sometimes you can haul em in from the other side.. tho praps not at 2.4...

you can't expect others to notice you have a child seat.
Can you honestly say you noticed that sort of thing pre children?

Even now having kids myself I never notice what is in other cars.I park well away from other cars whenever possible to avoid people doing what you just did, either through carelessness or malice.

Did you not get a corresponding scrape /bash on your door?

At least you admit you were unreasonable.

Oh dear, I'm afraid you were unreasonable but we've all done it.

In a perfect world we'd all consider others first (especially when driving - one of my biggest bugbears) but we don't for a number of reasons - we might be too distracted by our own children, in a rush, stressed, etc, etc.

So, in conclusion, you did act unreasonably but we've all been there and can completely understand why you did.

I agree that drivers can't be expected to notice whether or not you have a child seat and park accordingly.
Was there plenty of room on the other side of the other car or was the owner forced to park close due to lack of space?

Don't fret or you will turn into us on our weekly foray to the supermarket going past the cars in the parent/toddler spaces and when there are no child seats/ fruit shoots/cuddly toys on the back seat and the car is clean dammit clearly hating these people as THEY HAVE NO TODDLERS,

Nice selection of responses thank you. I admit that I was unreasonable in that the other driver shouldn't have had to notice DS's seat, yes fair enough.

It was only a little mark HOWEVER, I may have over-reacted. The same thing happened to me a few weeks ago and the car-owner parked stupidly close was IN the car when I touched his door getting DS in. And was all aggressive!

"Did you hurt my car you stupid bitch?" said the owner of the Chryster Crossfire Wankmobile.

He was sitting in a parent / child space with no children waiting for his ridiculous orange GF too.

OMG what did you say to him? I had to get DS in through the other side the other day, I was mad as there were lots of cars in the P&T spaces with no car seats. I asked the attendent if he was giving them tickets and he said he wasn't allowed to yet, as the signs did not warn about fines, but they were changing it in a week or two. Ha.

Oh, YANBU, if I had no choice, I would have done the same.

But, this time YABVU. Someone did something a tiny bit inconsiderate (probably without menaing to) and you damaged their property very incosidrately and very much on purpose. Does your child now think it's okay to bash other people's stuff if it's in their way?

We've all been there and I've never bashed another car like that, because it's a horrible thing to do.

It wouldn't occur to me to check whether the car next to mine had a car seat.

Causing damage to someone's car when they haven't done anything wrong is v v unreasonable.

Just because there is a child seat doesn´t mean the child is with you!

Was the driver parked within the white lines?

I think deliberately damaging a car is a horrible thing to go.
How would you feel if it happened to you?

That didn't occur to me But then he is only two and it's one of those things. Even reversing out slowly you just don't have unsecured small DC in moving cars unless you are Britney Spears.

Lyra yes there was plenty of room on his other side, he had parked carelessly or perhaps had a very large passenger. (Not disabled though, loads of disabled spaces available) But yes, I am feeling guilty about it this morning.

i dont see how bashing his car made it easier to get your child in the car? I mean, it didnt make there be anymore room did it, unless you are Mrs Incredible. Just hope no-one saw you do it and gave them your reg number.

Guffaw at Britney comment.I gaily damage cars parked too close to mine/too near pavement/in P&T and disabled places/when in bad mood/if I object to make and style.

Frequently

Keying is also a recommended technique. V effective.
