AIBU?

To take DS to a baby group with a cold?

DS is 6 months and has his first cold - he's only got a bit of a cough and a runny nose but is otherwise fine - no temp. I said I wouldn't bother with baby group today as I don't want to pass it round (there may be some very young babies there), but DH thinks I'm being a bit OTT and should carry on as normal as it isn't something like, say, chickenpox. But would you want a sick child to turn up at a gathering with his germs?

AIBU or is DH? I honestly don't know what the etiquette is with something like this - do you carry on as normal or is it a big no no?

If it's a cold with no temp I would take him - or you will never take him anywhere!

I wouldnt worry about a sniffly baby in a group. I'd be pissed off if it was something more serious tho

It depends on how snotty he is. Children with yellow snot trailing below their nose isn't pleasant to see.

If babies never get exposed to germs then they'll never get immunity. I'd go if he's fine to go and will enjoy it.

If he is happy and well, there's no reason to not take him. Children are surrounded by colds and minor bugs all the time, esp those with older siblings. If he's grumpy you shouldn't take him as he won't enjoy it and it is a bit more of a serious bug to pass on.

my ds (5 mths) had his first cold last week, I decided not to take him to a group where I knew there would be a lot of younger babies in case he passed anything on but would probably have been ok with taking him to a group with older babies as their immune systems are more developed/they are more likely to have already had exposure to lots of colds. As I understand it they are most contagious in the first couple of days of showing symptoms so my personal opinion is that it is only fair to other mums/babies to keep a distance at that time. Up to you though and my dh thought I was being a bit ott last week as well....!

We quickly learned that if you don't go anywhere when they have a mild cold then you will never go anywhere, as they have colds all of the time...
