Ok I am probably being very ageist but I just got my second ever Boden purchase this morning and decided it nearly all looks worse in RL than it does in the catalogue. There are 2 things I'd like to keep but when I looked at the reviews of them on the website I have been put off keeping one of the tops because some reviewers who love & wear it are pensioners! I just feel weird and old now! (I am 'only' 33). I also don't like to shop in shops that older ladies are in like Wallis and the likes, I like some of their stuff but AIBU to be put off, am I the only one who feels like this? Maybe I am in denial of growing older myself...

No offence to anyone who is >60 or shops in Wallis!

....should I keep the top?

Do you like the top? Fuck what everyone else wears.

If you like it keep it, if you don't send it back.

God no. Send it back. I saw the boden catalogue at neighbours house and had a look through... never bought anything from there before as I know its too expensive anyway, but omg it really was a pile of shit. Neighbour says it used to be good but agreed this stuff is all old persons clothing. So its not just me! I'd feel very uncomfortable in any of it I think. There was one cardy I could've got away with iirc, and one pair of boots, but that was it.

Can we have a link to the top btw?

Had the same situation myself when I bought a Per Una cardigan this summer - before I'd even worn it I saw the exact same cardigan on someone 80+. Cardigan went back to the shop pronto, as I really didn't feel the same about it any more.

So no, YANBU.

here it is I got it in green stripes.

I only ordered it cos it was in the sale! The only thing I think I'm keeping is a denim skirt, the rest of the tops are horrid in real life.

Look on the bright side - if your chillblains are playing up you can always pop your hands in that little muff area at the front.

I was thinking that when I bought some jeans in Per Una the other day. Every single other woman in that part of the shop, changing room or queue was considerably older than my mum. I decided jeans can be from anywhere and it's the top and shoes that make an outfit!

Yes ILYsleeves you are being ageist. Has it occurred to you that the 60 + women just might like clothes that younger women like too. What is so wrong with that? As for the tops that pensioners like for god's sake...........if I were you I wouldn't have them in your home ...........you never know they might contaminate you!

Sorry but I am 62 and like all sorts of clothes from all sorts of shops and don't give a toss about what other ages of woman like the same stuff. Why do you I wonder. Do you think you will look older because you are wearing something that an older woman wears. It doesn't work like that, your hair, skin, body etc will tell everyone your real age so what's the problem.

My MIL wears clothes from Topshop, H&M and New Look. She is 63 and looks absolutely fab in them (not remotely mutton-as-lamb). It comes across as a bit immature of you TBH. Either you like something or you don't.

I am fairly old and have just committed a terrible sin! I have just bought two pairs of jeggings and you know what - I dont give a monkeys! I will never succomb to anything which could be classed as for the older woman and I will never be 'beiged' (IFSWIM). I have ordered my dcs to shoot me if I ever buy anything beige!

I know a few Very stylish ladies in their 50s, 60s, 70s

(none of them would be seen DEAD in Boden)

It wouldn't put me off at all because it's not what you wear it's the way that you wear it that matters

You've had a lucky escape.
Even the models in the catalogue don't look good in the clothes.....and they're models!
