AIBU?

to be annoyed by another chool uniform issue? Just seen the first one and it reminded me!

Towards the end of last school year dd's school brought out logo'd polo shirts for the pupils (they are quite strict on uniform and have only recently allowed girls to wear trousers). Anyway, we borught a couple for dd.

When she went back to school last week I sent her in her polo shirts, when she cam home she said she had been told she wasn't allowed to wear the polo shirts anymore as they were summer uniform and she had to return the next day in a shirt and tie.

Had I have known that these tops were only going to be allowed for 6 weeks last year I would not have invested money in them. I would imagine dd will have grown out of them by the coming summer term too so we probably won't get any more wear out of them and she won't wear them outside of school because of the logo on them.

The thing that is bugging me is that girls are still allowed to wear their summer dresses whilst my dd has to swelter in a shirt, tie and jumper (they are not allowed jumpers off unless it is VERY hot).

My dd will NOT wear a dress or skirt (she is a real tom boy!)

I am thinking of writing to the head to complain......so AIBU?

No. YANBU. I would kill for a uniform for dd but, I would strenuosly and vocifericly protest at a uniform that were worn only for six weeks. Ridiculous as they are allowed to wear dresses at the same time.

YANBU, the school should have told you this before you bought the t shirts.

Also at school not allowing dcs to take off jumpers in this heat! Don't know what the weather is like around you, but here it is pretty clammy. My DS just started at new school (private, strict uniform rules) and all the boys are just in short sleeved shirts.

I would have a word about that - sounds very unhealthy for dcs, someone could faint. Point out that it is discrimination.

there was no mention when they announced the polo's were for sale that they were only allowed to wear them during summer term too!

stupid, oursa can wear summer uniform (polo shirt & skirt or trews OR summer dress) until half term - then its winter until after easter
WRITE WRITE WRITE and I would copy in the chair of the governors too

No, your not being unreasonable at all. Very silly/ waste of money - I would be annoyed too..

Is it a state school? If so, should complain to local authority as this is against the pronciple now that uniform rules should not cause parents excessice cost.

Have another word with school along these lines and see if they relent.

There is no way my Dc's would/could wear a jumper in this weather!

yes it's a state shcool. My dd said they were given permission to remove their jumpers but on a usual basis it's jumpers on at all times (they do relax this a little in hot wether)

Right, I'm going to write to her then. Now I just have to pretend I am elequent!

ok, I have written a letter asking if it is correct and if so why. If she comes back with a rubbish answer I may well send all the correspondance to the gouvenors to look into.

yanbu

if summer dresses are still being worn then summer uniform is obv still allowed, of which the polo shirts are part.

if everyone had to be in shirts and ties I could see their point (they would still BU but at least they would be consistent)

NB it may be she can only wear a polo shirt with shorts - trousers may make it 'winter uniform' and hence need a shirt and tie.

How old is your dd? Uniform is only strictly enforceable for secondary age.

no shorts rule - she was wearing them with trousers during summer term.

Dd is 9 - just gone into year 5.

YANBU. DS has gone back in summer uniform - but regardless of the weather, surely either they can or can't - there is no way they can justify one rule for girls uniform and another for "boys".

Sounds absolutely batty to me. I'd have thought that being able to remove a layer of clothing if too hot (and replace it if too cold) is quite a reasonable thing for a child or adult to do.
Definitely write and get other parents on side. Good luck.

I dont know about England but in Wales school uniform isnt legally enforceable at primary level

If my ds is forced to wear a sweatshirt all day he becomes incredably hot and terribly cross and unhappy

I would write to the school to complain that they are being ridiculous - school polo shirts ARE school uniform

Summer uniform (apart from gingham dresses/shorts) is silly imo - an opportunity for the school to make money

Write to the head,the governers - anyone who will listen
