I'm rather impressed that she had the energy.

these kind of stories make me wonder: Was it only me who was bleeding lots for weeks after birth?

And that's one dedicated granny, too!

But no most definitely not.

I went on a night out 10 days after giving birth...although not with thigh high boots.......

Good on anyone who feels up for a night out after giving birth!!

I could barly walk 4 days after giving birth let alone consider going on a night out.

Blimey gotta give the girl dips for being able to stand up and party, I was still in hospital four days after having mine. But no PFB would have stayed at my side and the twins are a bit of a party stopper.

I certainly couldn't have done it. Also not sure how good for you it can be - not exactly taking it easy and letting body recover from labour.

I've babysat for a family where the baby was 3 days old (there was also an older child). So going out a few days after giving birth - fine, if they have the energy, if they want to go / or can't get out of going (as was the case in the situation I babysat).
Wearing mini skirt and thigh boots is a bit much though... did the skirt fit?

Dear God - definitely OTT.

I can't imagine wanting to have left DS at 4 days even if I hadn't been afraid my insides were going to fall out when I walked. (Had a section)

So I am not the only one who could not have bothered with the hassle of it? Still heavy blood loss here too. Would not have been confident to make it out the front door glammed up. I wonder what my excuse is now - 15 years since last child.

I wouldn't, but there's nothing wrong with it assuming baby is being looked after and fed by someone else. Don't be so judgy!

stickylittlefingers · 21/08/2009 23:10

well, if she could do it, don't see the problem. If I'd done it, it wouldn't have been a pretty sight, tho (mrs blobby wearing industrial strength maternity pads - not a great look in a mini).

emkana · 21/08/2009 23:12

Well I'll come out and say that I do think you could hold off for a bit longer after having a baby, and so yes I would judge.

Report
mears · 21/08/2009 23:14

Yes tis unashamedly judgy.

Miniskirt and boots aside, I could not have had my newborn away from me overnight less than a week old. (Actually not true - were in SCBU but that is different)!

Who are we talking about please?

Reminds me that I saw a woman with a one week old this week who was wearing white linen trousers and you could see the maternity pads very clearly as she was walking - felt sorry for her, but couldn't say anything.

Not anyone famous. Just someone I know of.

Personally, I couldn't leave my newborn with ANYONE else at 4 days.
All I want to do is hold them and feed them.

Would also probo be a bit judgy thinking, but of course not saying 'Why did you have a baby if you can only hold off partying for all of 4 days?!'

DD1 was 10 days old when I went on a nigth out (pre-arranged months before) I had a section and was released after 5 days.....my mum looked after her overnight. Perfectly reasonable. Lovely Grandma/Grand-daughter bonding time. And a chance for me to enjoy myself and have a glass of wine after a long 9 months...........I still had my staples in!!

White linen trousers a week after giving birth

No way I could have left a 4 day old baby with anyone overnight, I take it she didn't have stitches, heavy bleeding, cracked sore nipples, jelly belly and sheer exhaustion? Also you probably couldn't do it with a exclusively BF baby.

The stories of women leaving their babies and going off for a shag on the post natal ward baffles me too

Well no, I wouldn't have fancied it either.

But is it wrong?

I'm not sure it is. Odd, but not wrong. And you can't judge a whole parent / child relationship on thigh high boots.
