dc can learn puerile humour in their own time, surely. Don't need coaxing into it

Am not liking the way the babble is sounding like 'didyaaaheeeeetha' when dh lets one rip. And the way ds is laughing at his own wind. Have heard my dh have this exchange with him. (if you can imagine dh saying 'Did you hear that?' in shocked kenneth williams voice)

Whadya reckon? Am I being a miserable old cow?

Oh lord, we have EXACTLY this issue in our house lol.

DH calls DS the King of Pop

DS who is also two is now so eager to make DH laugh that when we get him changed after bathtime he often strains so much to pop one out that he keeps doing little wees

My mother is mostly not amused.

I also am mostly not amused....at least I TRY not to be

Yes you are being a miserable cow.

My dh used to do this with my daughter when she was little and she was highly amused...then...not now though. She outgrew it and he soon got the message.

That's the difference between the sexes. Girls outgrow fart jokes. Boys don't.

Has your DH taught DS to waft admiringly yet?

[glad I've only got a DD!]

I can remember the hilarity and sheer glee my ds had when he first farted in the bath. That was with no coaxing whatsoever.

We now laugh at farts together, if you can't beat the join them, much to my mums disgust...

Oh god, what is it about males and their toilet humour?

It wears a little thin after a while. As the mum of a boy I am sooo bored of fart/bum/poo jokes.

YABU...if only for using the word gauche!

My dd loves farting right now. She's 8 and will either grow out of it or she'll be one of the lads...the lager lout type lads.

I must be gauche anyway, cos I think farts are really very funny sometimes.

ahhhhhhh Grimma

actually thinking now to how my dad and brother used to play 'blow football' - basically farting at each other and going 'GOOOOAAALL'

Tho my brother was at least 7. Had got other strings to his bow by then

dh wafts. That will be the next thing then. Oh I'll just say he's doing dingle dangle scarecrow!

I have 2 DS and have resigned myself to the fact that I am going to be surrounded by fart gags for the rest of my life.

DH finds his own emissions hilarious and encouraged DS1 to 'pull his finger' as soon as he was old enough to follow instruction.

masonicpixiesreadthedailymail · 18/08/2009 23:56

dh won't be encouraging that one I think fruitstick. He listens to his mother prattle on about it contributing to arthritis! (which dh has. Er app cos he pulled his fingers to make ripping fart noises)

PMSL at this one - my DS2 (19yo, and a new father) told me today how proud he is that his son (5 weeks) smirks at every pop.

Mind you, he is the fartiest baby I've met in a long time.

LOL! I personally think farting is horrendous - I dont do it. Well, I possibly do, but I dont make a big song and dance about it like most

However. My DD (now 8 yrs old) used to fart constantly as a baby - I used to hear her over the baby monitor let rip like God knows what from newborn til I chucked out the damn monitor (after about 8 weeks!) I still maintain that, as it was a 2 way monitor, my farting newborn remembers my giggles when I heard it and now, 8 years on thinks its still amusing.

I used to work in a nursing hospice on night shifts and the girls I worked with used to hold...farting competitions...

Seriously. At 4am it is the LAST thing you need.

So no. You are not being a miserable cow Farting is wrong!

Aw! Farting is the one joke that is universally funny in all languages and at all ages. No matter where you are, who you are or what you are doing I DEFY YOU ALL not to snigger a bit if you hear someone accidentally sneak one out a bit louder than intended!

There is however, one exception - doing it in bed and then wafting the covers is NOT acceptable behaviour and warrants 43 minutes on the naughty spot.

weegiemum · 19/08/2009 10:04

My dd2 (5) made a "list" last week - she came and told me.

It was "what Mummies are good at"

and included

Cuddling
Cooking Spag Bol
Kissing
Making biscuits
Having surprises
Farting.

I was strangely proud of myself for that!

GrinnyPig · 19/08/2009 10:09

Custy - lol at "good arse". My brother and I used to say this when we were kids. I've never heard anyone else say it and I assumed we made it up!

OP YABU, my kids are in awe of how loud my farts can be.

pjmama- you have nailed it!

Farts are funny in the vulgar household (quelle surprise)

Why 43 minutes on the naughty step? seems terribly precise!

agree farting in bed is a no-no.

Report
pjmama · 19/08/2009 10:16

One minute for every year of your life - DH being the offender in this instance!

Report
Vulgar · 19/08/2009 10:19

Ah -that means my DH will get 43 minutes too

IMO there's nothing wrong with laughing at farting.

Isn't it better when breaking wind in public to laugh it off rather than getting embarrassed about it?

So long as your DS eventually realises that you will disown him if he laughs too uproariously or if indeed he wafts it.

Sorry, but couldn't resist asking pruneplus2 this: you say you don't make a song and dance about farting - does that mean you do SBDs instead (silent but deadly)? And I hope you appreciate the irony of your MN nickname given your objection to farting!!

Are they up to "pull my finger" yet?

Report

I find adult men who deliberately fart in public and find it funny very juvenile and completely unsexy. My brother does this , although he has got better as my SIL is also unimpressed. Controlling your bodily functions is part of becoming a civilised adult in my opinion. I wouldn't want a bloke who sniffed or deliberately burped either.
You lot are welcome to them.
