better go as lap top battery is dying. But if you want to ignore other people for good then block them through your privacy settings, and you can hide people's status updates on your news feeds if you have annoying people that just moan or boast about being drunk all the time.

I find it a really good way to keep in touch with nieces and nephews that are at uni and family abroad... could do that just by e mail I suppose but facebook seems less formal and has actually brought our spread out family closer.
I don't add people that I don't really know and I don't do the games and stuff... I do have lots of photos on there to share with family though.
Some of the girls at work let it take over their lives but it can only do that if you let it!

Its brilliant if you use your privacy settings well an dont add a load of people you don't really know. If you think it's crap you are probably using it the wrong way

I use it as a kind of online address book. I like knowing that I know exactly where I can reach friends I don't have contact with every day. They can move to Australia and I'd still not lose touch with them.

But that's all the purpose it serves. Everything else about it irritates me.

Limit your usage, and don't reveal too much of yourself on it and it's not that bad.

Oh, YANBU.

I agree; on the whole it's egocentric and dull.
And how people find the time to use it for hours on end I really don't know. Thankfully I have far more interesting, worthwhile things to do with my life than divulge the mundane minutie of it to people who really need to get out a bit more.

YANBU.

I have just deactivated my account. I kept adding old school friends out of nosiness and spent too much time then being nosy! Most had such different lives to me it was silly.

The final straw was adding my dc's half brother who is 16, and seeing what a horrid life he has, and is making for himself with his mother who I thought had improved but seemingly not. It all got depressing and I got rid of it, very liberating.

I only just joined a couple of weeks ago and have got back and met up for lunch with a few old friends as a result which has been lovely.

I haven't added anyone I don't know or want to know or done any crappy status thingummijigs but think it's a great way of keeping in touch with people.

As an addendum to my previous post, I guess for catching up with people you haven't seen in ages it's quite good, really. But that's all.
It's the posts from people who're on it 24/7 telling us they've just had a bath etc etc that are really . Also very are the people who plaster photos of their children all over it. I honestly think some people take photos of their kids especially to put on Facebook.

Gateau I've wondered that sometimes. And the need to let the world know what's happened to you an instant after it's happened...I don't get that! There have been times when I've gone to visit a friend and when I come home, she's already got the photos of the visit on her FB page! So was she spending the entire time thinking "Oh that would make a great FB status" ???

YABU, I have family and friends scattered all over the world.

You just need to keep a tight hold on it. I only have people I actually want to know/hear from on it and I decline all of the other stuff.
