cream cake child neglect

DD is 12months and ill with a cold and teething. I have struggled to feed her the last 4 days due to her being off her food. Today she has eaten
2 bananas
2 bottles of milk
some of those organix goodies tomato crisp things.
She has refused everything else.

Earlier I went to give her a quarter of my cream cake which has cream and jam on it. SIL piped up with "DON'T give the child cream cake!" dh "will be really annoyed".

Well yes I know cream cakes arnt great for kids but i'm desperately trying to get some fat and calories into her.

I'm a bit miffed to say the least

AIBU to be miffed?

Well, cream cakes aren't ideal but probably won't hurt.

I'd be annoyed that she's acting like the police for your dh. None of her business, quite frankly.

I'm not commenting on the cream cake, but your SIL is very rude

tell her to keep her beak out

YANBU - If you were feeding the child cream cake every day for every meal then maybe she could have said something.
Her dh or your dh will be annoyed?

I get more annoyed with people who think certian foods are too good for children and they should never ever have them.

YANBU, your SIL could have put it a little more subtly if she felt that strongly about cream cakes, but when it comes down to it it's none of her business what you feed your LO, and it's definately not up to interfere and tell you what your DH would think about it!!

She looks to have had a fair bit today, she's not starving or anything and it's good for them to try all different types of food, in my eyes there are no 'bad' foods, just everything in moderation.

YANBU. I always give DD crap I wouldn't normally in an effort to get something down her when she's ill - usually some kind of jarred pudding but if she was eyeing up my cream cake in those circs I would let her have some.

Did she tell you that your DH would be annoyed? Yikes.

What sort of cream cake was it by the way?
(not relevant to the thread, I just like talking about cakes )

what would he be more annoyed about- giving her a bit of cream cake or her continuing to refuse food?

What the hell has it got to do with her? Come to that - and I don't mean this in a mean way - why would your dh be annoyed, and why would your dh's annoyance be anything to do with her?

I'm miffed on your behalf!

I also give ds treats when he's not well - he had ice cream for breakfast the other day (I had a thread on here about it, actually!) - it won't do any harm, and might make them feel better.

Does your SIL only eat gruel when she's ill then?

Unless it was your dh's cake, in which case YABU!

Is your SIL one of those people who spends hours pureeing and then freezing organic food for her DCs and has never, ever given them chocolate?

Or does she just not have children?

YANBU. She needed to eat something.

I bet it was an apple turnover with sugar on top.
Report
Longtalljosie · 15/08/2009 19:21

It's not an apple turnover - it had jam in it...

i want a cream cake too

none of her business. I might be really pissy about food, but when my neighbour tells me her lo only eats fruitshoots, i don't criticise because 1) her tot will be fine in the long run and 2) it would be very rude and 3) none of my sodding businss 4) i suspect this makes things a bit of a nightmare for her as i know i haven't enjoyed my daughters pickyness (gngngngn she did eat some rice the other day..)

YANBU - a bit of cream cake? being told off by SIL about what you are feeding your OWN child?!

Absolutely none of her business. Does she get to tell you what to do / not to do in other areas of your life too?

AramintaCane · 15/08/2009 19:30

YANBU OP. But you could at least have bought a bit back for all of us.

Creamcake = calcium, carbs, 1 of your five fruit & veg if the jam was strawberry.

Quite seriously, this is appalling:

  1. Your SIL thinks she can tell you how to raise your child
  2. Not only does she think it, she said it!
  3. Nothing to do with her.

Out of interest, how did you react?
Report
ministryofsleep · 15/08/2009 19:46

YANBU, your SIL is out of order to tell you what to feed your child - but if she has had 2 x bottles of milk and 2 bananas and some organix crisps she probably isn't very hungry and that's why she's refused everything else esp if poorly and teething
