AIBU?

to think DH has the wrong attitude to job interview tomorrow?

He has really pissed me off. I know I am being unreasonable. But still, I am asking for opinions to help me feel not so pissed off.

DH has job interview tomorrow, he has not prepped for it, and it prepping now. Anyway, a friend just called to ask him over to visit new place, and DH said 'i can't mate I got a job interview tomorrow, yeah I know, gutted, but well, I got to get it really, as we are broke'.

I am really pissed off, because it is not a job, more of a vocation, and its not that kind of job, he will be working with vulnerable people, and needs to want it if he is able to even do it. You can't just do this kind of job because you need the money.

And also, as much as we do need the money, and I want him to work for this reason, I also would like him to want to work. To want to have pride in working, not because he has to.

I should just accept I am getting my own way and be pleased he even has a job interview.

I know, I know. I just worry that if he goes in with the attitude of i need it for the money, he won't give it his all.

I want it all, I know thats wrong.

You should be pleased. There are people getting laid off left, right and centre just now...

I went to my last interview knowing that I had to get the job because dh had been made redundant. I got the job because I was the right candidate. Who doesn't need the money these days?

Yes, he was laid off in Jan. We are broke, he is not wrong.

Your H may surprise you when he gets the job and likes the nature of the work. Hope it goes well tomorrow!

Male bravado, that's all.

lovechoc - I have no doubt he will be good at it, and he got this far due to his abilities being visible on the application form (with only a little help from me this time!).

Just well, would prefer a happier attitude towards it.

But you are all right, I am being unreasonable. He has a job interview and its great. Even if he is reading football website right now instead of thinking of questions/answers (while I sit here MN'ing while waiting for him).

How can "sorry I can't come out to play, I'm preparing for a job interview" be the wrong attitude?

Sorry, YABU

PS, good luck to him

I don't think i have ever been "happy" at the prospect of an interview.

I bet he is covering up and trying to pretend he does not care as much as he really does.

Sure.

He is probably a but nervous as he knows how important getting this job is.

Look you can't make him be excited if he isn't. Just pack away all your feelings about this for now and see what happens. You having a row now (which is imo the way you're headed) isn't going to help either of you.

So your dh has an interview - good
He has told a friend he feels the need to provide for his family - good
He is now prepping for said interview - very good

You wanting him to be excited and enthusiastic and exactly like you - basically not going to happen, at least not tonight. You just have to live with that one.

I guess I just want him to be me! I would have a million questions and answers by now, have read the website, looked up co in google, blah blah by now. I would also have my suit ironed, have bathed, shaved, and be sat here preparing for an early night.

He has had a shave though. Thats good isn't it?

x posted me saying you want him to be like you with you saying same! Weird!

I want to know exactly what bits of you you like to shave before interviews btw?

Oh no Dr - I am not outwardly pissed of with him. I would not put that on him the night before an interview. I am getting it all out on MN! To him, I am ignoring his crabbiness, his frustration with not finding his paperwork, or passport, and I have made him a cup of tea! I have said nowt about the phone call to him!

Just venting.

armpits - in case its hot and I need to take my jacket off (unlikely as I have a tattoo which I keep covered, but you never know !) and my legs if I wear a skirt, which is rare, but anyway it makes me feel fresh and clean and prepared and also my lady garden might be trimmed if I feel the need, because i know, like, wearing my best undies, no-one can see them, but i feel more confident!

DH will put on the first pair of pants he reaches for in his drawer and socks that do not match. I will force him to change them before he goes!

I can't tell you how relieved I am - was imagining pavlov-with-a-beard

No, I tend to find it more appealing to leave my facial hair there. You know, for the sympathy factor!

He has gone from reading the football website to talking to his brother on the telephone - lives in USA, and he is like 'got to talk to him, he lives thousands of miles away' er? but he runs a nightclub so works very very late? Oh well. Never mind.

He has an interview. Tomorrow will be a blind panic. As always.
