It's a lift from Closer Magazine. The same people that ran the story of the 30 stone mum that fed her triplets burgers. Remember?

'Fat mums on benefits' is a good seller for Closer and a good talking point for people like the Daily Mail. The woman in the story got paid a few hundred quid and will probably make a few more. I'd take the story with a pinch of salt.

I think it's disgusting, and I'm shocked...that you read the Daily Mail.

YABU to make us read a Daily Mail story!

Looks too good bad to be true

Oh GAWD the DM - does anyone actually BELIEVE what they read in it???????

Its like that rag from the 80's which used to talk to people about being abducted by aliens etc.

The DM is an alarmist rag, filled with inaccuracies and twisted reporting to inflame the member of the population who are highly suggestible.

Chuck it in the recycling where it belongs and don't bother reading it again.

The Daily Mail print stories that they know will get their readers, livid, fuming and hysterical.

There was one the other day about tax credits, comments like:

Its not just the tax credits that they have to sort out...its the benefits for the young pregnant girls...

India has just built its first nuclear submarine yet we still give it hundreds of millions in overseas aid.

We have a 1000,000 emigrates in this country many living of the state and our taxes and we should pay more.

Time to scrap the expensive and complicated tax credit system completely. Child benefit should be dumped too - we don't need more babies the country is already overcrowded

You are definitely being unreasonable if you paid for a copy of the Daily Mail- it just encourages them!

What's the country comming to?

This woman is hardly reprsentative of the average Brit. That's why it's in "Closer"

Chevre · 29/07/2009 08:43

omg it is like the perfect dailymail story. the cystalisation of everything they have been trying to achieve over the past 10 years.
fat woman - tick
lazy woman - tick
stupid woman - tick
benefits - tick

i think she has a point actually, i would like some disablitity allowance as i have grey hair and would like some benefits to help get it highlighted too.

the picture of her at 15 is really sad. i think it is ridiculous that the nhs would perform surgery and then not follow it up by educating her.

I bet some of it is true - but with a lot of important detail missed out and other bits embellished, and facts mixed up. - as it always the way with DM articles.

As long as she doesn't stop being depressed, she won't loose her incapacity benefit.....

Report
LynetteScavo · 29/07/2009 08:58

But at least she'll be able to sell her story to another magazine.......

Of course 'fat people' can get DLA - if their obesity is a hindrance to their health it is disabling. Sounds like she was getting either Mid rate care/high mobility or High Care/Low mobility.

I take it no-one has noticed that she lost 8.5 stone prior to surgery?

"emotionally I don't always feel like an apple"

I love that quote and will use it

DLA is awarded on basis of impairment, and that can be physical health or mental health. if the lady mobilises poorly and her obesity impacts upon health (As it will) she will get DLA
