to be really annoyed by my mother just now?

She just rang - asked if we're not going round there today (no - it's nearly tea-time) - it wasn't set in stone that we were going anyway

I said no, we'll pop round in the morning to have our showers (my house has no shower and bath is un-useable) before going out

she declares it'll have been a month before DS sees water by the time I get round to it (it won't) and then declares that I must be "down in the dumps" because I've dared to not go to her house every day since the holidays

TBH I've been enjoying not getting up for school, not having to get dressed or go places and whenever I've rang to see if she's around, she's busy.

AND whenever we do see her, she makes a point of sniffing Ds and telling him he stinks and will be the smelly boy at school (term time obviously, but continues during holidays).

So AIBU? <probably>

How often do you wash him??

Sounds like you're just a bit down in the dumps to me grin

SerendipitousHarlot Mon 27-Jul-09 17:09:59

Wait, wait! Are you saying that you have no bath/shower permanently?

Mumcentreplus Mon 27-Jul-09 17:14:30

hahaha Moony!

She's just being a Mother...control-freaky,irritating,knowitallish,guilt inducing ..you know...just ignore wink

Alambil Mon 27-Jul-09 17:26:47

Yes, we have no bath or shower...

hertsnessex Mon 27-Jul-09 17:31:25

why no bath and shower?? do you wash him everyday?? (flannel, soap etc?)

HecatesTwopenceworth Mon 27-Jul-09 17:55:24

for how long?

Geepers Mon 27-Jul-09 17:55:28

Sounds like she is worried about how you are coping.

rubyslippers Mon 27-Jul-09 17:56:49

i think i would be concerned if my DD and DGS were living in a house where they were unable to bath or shower

LuluMaman Mon 27-Jul-09 17:58:20

agree with ruby

being the slightly smelly/dirty/unwashed child at school is not a good thing

is he ever a bit whiffy?

why do you have no bathing facilities?

how do you keep clean?

addicted2weddings Mon 27-Jul-09 18:04:02

give her a fucking break, i have a useable bath but we only bath the DC every 2-3 days if that.they have a wash everyday and dont stink so dont see the problem.

Mumcentreplus Mon 27-Jul-09 18:14:43

People can survive without a working shower/bath you know!...she can bucket/basin wash with a flannel and be just as clean..plus she goes her mums...I don't like the sniffing of DCs that would piss me right off..

cornsillk Mon 27-Jul-09 18:17:10

FGS if he doesn't have a bath for a week he's not going to smell! I'm sure they have a sink somewhere in which to wash.

LuluMaman Mon 27-Jul-09 18:19:08

even if she has the wrong way of going about it, i think she is showing motherly and grandmotherly concern.

a house with no useable bathing facilities is not a good thing

Mumcentreplus Mon 27-Jul-09 18:21:52

Yeah...dontcha just lurveee concern hmmgrin

TheLadyEvenstar Mon 27-Jul-09 18:22:09

Oh Lewis hun, it sounds like you are a bit down in the dumps hunni...has it really been almost a month since ds has seen water...I hear there are some good lakes around. Otherwise you could tell mummy to bog off and that ds likes washing in mud on a daily basis.

I have lived in a place that had no bath or shower but it did have a very good sink and a bucket/basin i could fill for washing myself and ds1....he never stank..

ohhhh do you have a dishwasher or washing machine put him in there on a quick wash it could work!!

LOL mums do make us mad don't they???

addicted2weddings Mon 27-Jul-09 18:29:19

shock did you just call lewis hun, you do realise this is MN and not another parenting forum!!!!!!

allaboutme Mon 27-Jul-09 18:31:52

you do sound a bit down in the dumps and i cant believe you havent bathed your ds for a month...

TheLadyEvenstar Mon 27-Jul-09 18:32:03

lmao i was being sarcastic!!! I don't normally do the hun thing....

but i was showing concern ya see innit

<hands everyone a frooooot shoot

addicted2weddings Mon 27-Jul-09 18:33:39

grin
get over yourself allaboutme!!!

Alambil Mon 27-Jul-09 18:33:42

He had a bath last week!!!!!!!!!!!

just because we don't have a bath to use here doesn't mean we don't bathe!

she thinks I'm not coping because she hasn't seen me for a few days - usually we go round every day during term time, mostly because she CMs for me... since school broke up, we've been round the first weekend, then she was really busy taking my nan places and seeing my sister and working, then it was this weekend when we went round again, and now it's Monday... she's at work tomorrow, ferrying my nan on Weds and Thurs, work friday and then it's the weekend again..... we were going to go the zoo today but she called off due to potential rain so haven't seen her today...

So I don't know what she's on about - it's not that we've actively not been round, it's just circumstance and her ferrying everyone else around and not HAVING to see eachother because obviosuly DS is with me...

I dunno, it just pissed me off...

Mumcentreplus Mon 27-Jul-09 19:16:48

<<Hugs Lewis>>...yeah I know...but I'm a hugger dammit! grin

TheLadyEvenstar Mon 27-Jul-09 19:19:39

you can't do hugs on here!!!!!!!!!

FabBakerGirlIsBack Mon 27-Jul-09 19:22:56

YANBU - she really ought to not sniff him and saying he will smell and get picked on at school, is just mean.

Mumcentreplus Mon 27-Jul-09 19:24:23
