For reporting a group of pre-schoolers?

A week before the end of term I witnessed the following:

A year 3 child (aged 8) running along a busy road looking terrified. Behind him where four reception children (aged between 3 and 4) with sticks, stones and branches screaming at the kid to "GET BACK 'ERE' and "stop running away you faggit"

Luckily, the older boy crossed a road and the little ones stopped at the curb to wait for their parents.

When the parents reached them, I heard one mother say "Connor, you're a right cocky twat, that kid might batter you tomorow!" and another mum laughed "fucking hell! that rock nearly hit the poor sod! you lot are right nasty!"

The next day I went into the school and reported the reception kids and explained what I'd seen. My friend has since told me that she thinks it was a bit pathetic "picking on" a group of 4 year olds.

You weren't picking on a group of 4 year olds - you were alerting their school to a possible child protection issue: THEIR protection. That is how I read what you're saying, anyway. Presumably their teachers are already aware of the less-than-exquisite parenting these children are receiving, but you have given them another piece of evidence that may be helpful to them if at any stage they need to take action.

I think you were quite right. I am horrified that you witnessed that.

I'm not surprised. In a playground i saw a 3yr old and 2yr old, chasing some older kids (10-12yr olds), trying to hit and kick them.
The older kids were a bit shocked and were laughing and the mum of these little boys, just thought it was funny and telling them to hit the bigger boys harder!
But then she looked a bit rough herself and no-one said a thing.
She had better hope her 'boys' don't beat her up when they are adults

They think it makes their little darlings 'hard' so they don't get bullied.
Instead they become the bullies as that's how some parents think.
Be a bully-get respect

Good job it wasn't my lad they picked on.
He has Asperger's, and in Primary if someone hit him, he'd hit them back. Regardless of how old they were, he couldn't see the difference.
They'd have been in little pieces all up and down the road. Those that weren't in trees.
So well done, you have hopefully saved them from a possibly lethal encounter with someone more dangerous.
Have to add, my lad has matured a lot since those days and now only retaliates with peers or older.
