My birthday is in August.

As a child I never once had a party because it was at the end of the summer holidays and in the days before email and text it was difficult for people to be invited to a childs party 6 weeks in advance.

Roll on a hundred years, now I'm old it seems that everyone in the entire world chooses that week to go on holiday.

I still haven't ever had party. This year not only are all my friends on holiday again that week my own bloody children are going to be away (being looked after by an aged aunt as free holiday )childcare.

I am feeling a little bit fed up about it. I know old people's birthdays are a bit of a on-event but this year is going to be even worse.

I know it's a month away but I like to plan my non-events well.

Eccentrica... can I join you in the birthday grumbles? I'm at the end of July and no one is ever here for my birthday. I even spent the whole of my 18th on my own, all my family were on holiday, all my friends were on holiday and I was working a crappy supermarket job to save up for University. Just about the most miserable 18th ever. And those with Christmas birthdays complain eh?

Plus apparently we're thicker than other people because we were always the youngest in the year. Great!

Still, I did my O levels when I was 15 and my A levels at 17 so eat that Autumn/winter babies!

Poor you. I know its not much in recompense - but why not have a mumsnet party? Post on here at the relevant time & invite people to turn up with a case bottle of wine & to drink your health. Bound to be plenty of willing volunteers. Either way, hope you manage to have a good birthday. YANBU.

I wouldn't bother, all us summer babies will just go and have our own party! Even if I gave everyone a year's notice for my 40th next year, they'll all whinge about how they have to go away that exact week because the kids are on hols... the nanny's away... the cleaner's having an operation.... the dog's got a limp.... useless excuses every one of them!

Never had that problem. Mainly because myself and most of my friends can't afford to go anywhere in the summer anyway. This year will probably be a humdinger though. 1st baby due on the 17th and my birthday is on the 19th....arrggh!

I sympathise. I'm the opposite of a summer baby, being born on 27th December, but noone wants to come to a party then either. They say they will, but between Xmas and NY they lose the will to live. 'We'll celebrate in the New Year^they promise. This is a lie.

Also, there are no birthday cards as they're put away for Christmas ones. And Mr PGM hates buying presents, so the double whammy means I end up with one at best.

No, I'm not bitter. I do sympathise though.

Can you rope your friends into it, tell then its about bloody time you had a party and you are going to have one. And choose a date when people are around.

Sympathies to you. Somehow my birthday always ended up being the first day of school. Particularly rubbish when you move school a fair bit. Have decided to take responsibility of my own birthday. If I want a nice day then is so much less angsty if I organise it.
