AIBU?

...to stop going to mother and baby groups because of swine flu?

I live in London and have a 3-month old baby. I'm quite worried about swine flu and am thinking of not going to the mother and baby group any more. Am I being paranoid? Will my son miss out if I don't go? He's so young, surely he doesn't need to see other kids at this stage.

He doesn't need groups imo, but for me, I needed them.

If you are going to be so worried about swine flu that you will be uncomfortable, then by all means do not go. But at 3 mths, he is not going to be in close contact with anyone, so I would go.

At three months he won't miss out, but you might. I just always carry wipes and alcohol rub and so try to keep my hands clean.

i would do whatever you feel comfortable with. maybe just meet up with a friend if you can. at 3 months your baby wouldn't be bothered at all.

your baby won't suffer for not going to the group

but you need to get a grip

That's a good tip, wonderingwondering. I think I will stock up on wipes and monitor the situation closely.
Thanks to you both for answering.

heard on the radio yesterday that this may exist for the next five years - so I think we have to get out of this mindset and live normally

It's a mild disease; don't get whipped up by the media. Seasonal flu goes round every year, apparently kills around 4000 people EVERY year but we don't have this hysteria.

Keep Calm and Carry On

YABU
Your baby doesn't need to groups but the fear of swine flu shouldn't be stopping you doing anything

It's true, and of course I can't protect him from everything for ever.
But he is so little, and I had so much trouble having him.
I will talk to my GP, he will know if there are a lot of cases locally. The group has stopped now until September, I will see then what things are like.

YABU - and your GP is probably busy enough tbh! Please just relax and enjoy your baby - at home or out.

Yanbu + yabu . I understand the fear of your ds getting it but its going to be around for months / years, you can't avoid everyone for all that time. I assume most groups are on summer break so see what the situation is come september. Your ds will be bigger and more robust by then.
