AIBU?

AIBU to breastfeed DS until he's 18?

Yeah I know what you're thinking, I've watched those documentaries too....

But I've tried every diet you can imagine... Weightwatchers, Slimming World, Rosemary Connelly etc etc, never lost more than a few pounds. Even when I got divorced I never lost weight. That was until I started breatfeeding DS. And now I'm starting to get nervous at the prospect of stopping, as I know I am going to balloon especially given the amount of cake/biscuits I have become accustomed to consuming on a daily basis.

So really, is it too much to ask of him? I mean nobody would need to know

as an alternative...why don't you just give up the cake/biscuits ????

its not rocket science

Yabu. Wait until he's four & then find a hunky 18yo to bf.

I bf for a year & managed to put on loads of weight because I, too, sat around eating biscuits. But when lo is a bit older & you're getting more sleep you'll have more willpower & be able to exercise a bit more.

As I've just written on another thread, the Paul McKenna book "I Can Make You Thin" worked for me - it's totally brilliant and the man is my hero - I'm back to my ideal weight and the only time I put weight on is when I stop following Paul's tips.

take him for long, brisk walks (him in his pushchair of course)

swop the biscuits for things like rice cakes

ultimatly, it's in your hands. adjust on daily basis until you find your balance.

In my experience, it worked the other way. I did pretty well getting down to just above my pre-pregnancy weight, then stopped BF six weeks ago, when little Ff was 15mo. It looks as though the myth about your body retaining extra weight until you stop is true - I have lost a stone in those six weeks, and now weight less than I did when I left school. Hoorah!

I'm praying that I'll lose some more weight once the milk dries up. I stopped bf-ing a week ago, but I gave them a squeeze out of curiosity today and some milk came out. It doesn't matter how little I eat, there's a stubborn stone and a half to come off.

yanbu, you could just keep having more babies instead though

I lose weight after stopping too. I hold on to that extra layer of fat until I finish bf then it tends to go.

The weight was a bit harder to shift with my youngest (due to my age I think). I gave up sugar in my tea and lost the last bit.

The above doesnt help if you dont take sugar in your tea though

I have met several people in real life who have decided to let their children self wean through La Leche League. They and their families are happy and well adjusted. I think its perfectly reasonable to extended breastfeed.

I have to admit that I chose to wean my child at two and half years old as I was fed up of his nursing manners. He decided it was good fun to twiddle my other breast and pretend it was a radio!

The oldest nursling I have ever met RL was a six year old. Eventually children reach a point when they refuse to breastfeed as they think its babyish. However I don't think its possible to nurse a child until 18 years old even if you/ they wanted to as the child loses the ablity to nurse.

However the good news is that running after an active toddler is a great way of keeping weight down.

Wait until he finds his feet - running after a toddler boy doesn't give you the time to open the biscuit tin or move to a place with LOTS of stairs ...

I don't think so tennis, I'm bfing a 3 year old and a 5 month old myself at the moment. Sometimes think my 3 year old will be still feeding when she's 18 but hoping that's not the case!

Have another baby!

I'm tandem nursing and eating SO MUCH CRAP! My skin looks shit but the weight has just fallen off.

rofl - I hope not Tennis.

Think of the logistics!

What would happen if he got thirsty during his A Levels? Maybe the OP could get a special note to sit next to him, at the ready.

instead of breastfeeding your DS is 18, why don't you try hypnotherapy. It works wonders for people trying to lose weight.

oops, I meant instead of bfing your son til he's 18

You get to the point where you have to give up the cakes because the little blighters start thinking it must be reasonable to want a biscuit every time mummy has one. You wouldn't believe how hard it is to keep up with my cake eating habit now I'm bf dd with ds pestering "William biscuit too! Mummy biscuit, William biscuit too!"

Have you tried hypnotherapy for weight loss? I'm interesting in trying it so I would like to hear if it worked for you or if you know someone it worked for. it's very expensive, but probably worth it if it def works.
