to have called the police about a man smoking a spliff in the kids play area?

He was getting out of a van as I went to get ds in for dinner and he walked over with two little girls, a little terrier and an almighty spliff hanging out of his mouth.

I told him I couldn't believe he was going in there and smoking, he came marching accross the car park towards me all macho before squaring up to me and having a go at me for saying it was disgusting.

He then stormed off going "Oh, my gosh!" taking the mickey out of the way I speak (I have a southern accent and we live in Lancashire). And it really didn't help that bloody ds then joined in going "Oh my gosh" at me too. Who's side is he on?! hmm

I'm all shakey now and I doubt the bloody police got there in time to see any sign of him.

how did you know it was a spliff

Maybe it was a very big roll-up?

I would be surprised if the police bothered going tbh. Sorry I dont think it was a reason to call the police for.

TBH I don't think it was worth it. I'm in Tottenham and people always smoke in parks, it's an open space after all.
Oh and sorry but grin at your DS

Regardless of what he was smoking I think he shouldn't have been doing it in the play park or trying to intimidate a woman half his size! Thanks for the sympathy.

not a reason to call the police at all

junglist1 Sun 12-Jul-09 19:48:39

No you're right he's a tosser for trying to intimidate you, especially as you had a child with you.

No you were silly.

lambanana Sun 12-Jul-09 19:57:39

You didn't ring 999 did you?

LilyAllensThirdNipple Sun 12-Jul-09 19:58:13

LilyAllensThirdNipple Sun 12-Jul-09 19:58:39

daftpunk Sun 12-Jul-09 20:00:46

the police have got better things to do..

A play area is a public place. It may not be enclosed but it is where children play. He wasn't even staying outside in the car park to smoke, it was full of children and he went in around them smoking.

I didn't 'have a go' or even shout, I told him I couldn't believe he was doing it and tried to explain why (children with asthma etc) but he started shouting and swearing over the top of me.

I certainly wasn't being silly and the police didn't seem to think so either when they took the details.

And of course I didn't dial 999 ffs.

we are teasing gently...

ruddynorah Sun 12-Jul-09 20:13:23

but why would you call the police? there's no law about smoking in outdoor areas.

hf128219 Sun 12-Jul-09 20:14:22

Did you contact Special Branch direct then?

CKelpie Sun 12-Jul-09 20:15:09

Sorry, sense of humour bypass atm.

Lizzylou Sun 12-Jul-09 20:18:09

But if it was a spliff and then he drove his van then that is illegal, surely?

I wouldn't have said anything tbh (and would have been more annoyed at the dog being on the play area)

CKelpie Sun 12-Jul-09 20:18:38

I called the police because he was smoking dope around kids, not just his and because he scared me.

hatwoman Sun 12-Jul-09 20:19:20

ruddynorah and greenelephant while I agree it was ott to call the police and not something that would bother me - he did't have a right to smoke a spliff and there is a law against it.
