I was walking down the high street with DD. Two cars came speeding to a stop (that doesn't make sense i know, but you know what i mean) at a zebra crossing. Young drivers, obviously racing. Music BLARING, i mean, BLARING. Young girl sat in front seat, swigging can of Stella.

CAR SEAT IN THE BACK SEAT, WITH ?? 4 MONTH OLD BABY IN IT!! [SHOCK][ANGRY]

poor wee mite must have been deafened! I also couldn't help but wonder if that can of beer was being passed to the driver too.

I made a comment that i bet the baby loved that music and they turned it off and gave me daggers. Thinking on it though, i was a bit slow - i should have noted the number plate and phoned the police. Drove off before that thought registered past my outrage .

YANBU to be cross and upset but you are BU to want to ring the police. No law was actually being broken and you shouldn't assume that the driver was drinking.

I think the OP was concerned that the drivers were racing, hence their dangerous speed near a crossing, hence the call to the police.

Of course YANBU - they sound like an accident waiting to happen IMO, especially if they can race with a baby in the back!

i agree re phoning the police, like you all say, i didn't see the driver drinking. And i guess, if he only had a sip or two, even then there is no law actually being broken.

Must have been pretty shit for baby though. Let alone the way they were driving.

you know shineon - im not sure about this, but i think i heard recently that it is actually against the law to play loud music in a car in a public area - but i could also be making that up, but im sure its been discussed on here even.

There maybe no law actually being broken but do they sound like capable parent's to you? It's always ok to report a concern about a child. If more people did, maybe less parent's would think its ok to be so crap.

Blimey, if that is enough to get you worked up, don't start working in a socially deprived area. I would be ecstatic if all my patients used car seats for their kids, however loud the music.

I live in a very mixed area and tbh I get really fed up of this soft aproach to crap parenting. It's ok to play loud music at your baby, speed, and consume alcohol while responsable for a child because you've remembered the car seat! Oh well done, a pat on the back for you!

Why is that an achievement?! So they bloody should have their kid in a car seat.

I'd have judged as well. you can damage their hearing for life if you subject them to extremely loud music regularly (And no, I don't think it is likely that it was a one off.)

I absolutely WOULD have judged EB. I think what i was judging the most was the absolute disregard for the poor little mite in the back seat. Also, with that level of music playing, how can the driver be fully aware of his surroundings.

Agree with enviousbitch - I don't see how anyone can possibly say these people are incapable parents based on this snapshot. I see lots of kids from households that I would regard as chaotic who actually do very well because they are loved. We are far too judgemental about the superficial stuff.

Jeez I used to play music in the car when my dc's were babies, they used to love it - wiggle their legs and giggle. If they'd been driving a Jag and playing classical music would you still be wearing your judgy pants.

I have just had to refrain from putting my judgey pants on in the park. A woman pushing a baby in a pram with the rain cover on: the baby was under blankets wearing a snowsuit with the hood up and a wooly hat on underneath. It's 26 degrees here today!

oh my god, get those chips off yer shoulders girls, i couldnt give a shit if it were a jag or a sooped up fiesta. I con't care if the music was motzart or eminem, it was TOO LOUD! My baby used to like loud music, heavy rock actually - but not so loud that it would have burst her ear drums.

Mama, i am constantly by people bundling up their babies in warm weather. Tis proper dangerous that is.

Now you see, call me paranoid, but i wouldnt go out "boy racing" with my baby in the back of the car - on account of actually giving a shit about my child.
