AIBU?

to expect a buggy to last more than 8 weeks?

Gah! My son's buggy broke today. We've only had it since the beginning of May, and the footrest and a bit of the handle fell of today. Surely it is not unreasonable to expect a buggy to last longer.

Worst of all, when I contacted the online retailer, they are refusing to offer more than a repair, even though Trading Standards have said it is not unreasoanle to expect a relacement or a refund because of the fact the buggy has only lasted 2 months.

I should add that it wasn't a cheapo £10 job, it was £65, which although not top of the range makes it a fairly decentish one, i would have thought.

Think big online retailer of baby goods with good discounts. Very disappointed as their customer service has in the past been first-class.

I should add that I don't want to N&S yet, as I have just written them a very firm e-mail outlining whatthe TS people told me to say, so I guess we should wait and see what happens first... I'm not holding my breath!

which brand buggy was it and how old/heavy is your dc?

thederkinsdame · 01/07/2009 19:18

Obaby, and my DS is late 2s. We don't use it all the time, just when he is tired or on longer trips, so TBH it has probably had more like 4 weeks use. Grrr!

Are you sure he's not over the weight limit?

Report
thederkinsdame · 01/07/2009 19:44

CArgirl they haven't stipulated a weight limit, and besides, it is the footstrap that has broken. He hasn't been sitting on that ;-) or even standing on it to get in the buggy!

Is the retailer 2 Left Feet?

Report
CarGirl · 01/07/2009 19:47

To conform with the relevant BS I think the weight limit is 15kg ie that's all they have to withstand.

I do completely agree with you that it's unreasonable.

Don't really want to say at this stage until we have found out which way it goes after this email... If they don't come trough for us, wwe will N&S of course! I have already left a negative on the product review, but as it has loads of 4 and 5 stars I am sure they will screen out my 1 star...

If it is 2 Left Feet then I would do a Google search for the name or a Mumsnet search then order yourself another buggy from somewhere else...

Not 2 left feet... Besides, I want my money back or a new buggy. CAn't afford to chuck £65 away.

Hopefully they'll be back to you soon then.

2 Left Feet are well known for their terrible customer service and lots and lots of people have never gotten thier money back.

Good luck. Maybe check with the CAB - you might be able to sort something out through your credit card provider..

The One show had a bit about faulty goods and getting your money back up to 6 years after purchase tonight. Apparently they have advice and sample letters on thier website.

Saw it and thought of you...

Under the Trades Description Act the goods which are sold must be fit for purpose. If not, then they have to offer a repair of replacement (it's up to the Company to decide). If they do this then they have fulfilled their obligations but if not, you can take them to the Small Claims Court where you can get your money back if the court finds in your favour. Hope it works out

My first (Graco) buggy was around £80 and lasted nearly 3 years, including a trip to Australia and back! Stick to your guns and insist on a refund/replacement plus compensation for the inconvenience. I couldn't imagine being without a buggy for a day when mine were little!

Thanks for your posts chaps. The buggy is being picked up tomorrow for them to 'decide' if it is faulty. We've had to buy another one, so TBH if they try to offer a repair, we will hold out for a refund, but if not sell it on ebay, I guess. It's put me off making big purchases on line tho!
