I probably am being a bit unreasonable but still, it has annoyed me!!!!

We have a grove of houses behind our house and the neighbor who's house backs on to ours are having a bonfire right bloody now.

I was up early and put a wash out on the line which I am now going to have to rewash. I have had to shut all of my windows. God only know what they are burning it smells awful, the smoke is thick black. I can smell it in the house even with the windows shut.

I just wish they would have knocked on the door to let me know so I could have at least brought the washing in.

Am pretty sure bonfires are illegal before a certain time, 6pm I think, also, awful smell, thick black smoke, sounds like they are burning plastic, this is also not allowed with many types of plastic, I would call the council.

I didn't know it had to be after a certain time. I was planning on popping round for a polite word once the bonfire has finished, I might just drop that into the convo.
Thanks.

if they are going to be burning stuff that is going to make such black smoke and stink, then they should at least have mentioned it to you, or waited till nightfall when most people wont have their washing hanging out.

how rude!!

We had a bbq last night, and I made DH knock on all the neighbour's doors warning them about it, so they could bring washing in.

Any bonfire that isn't burning just garden waste is dangerous, as there is no guarantee that it won't get out of control.

I would phone the council, as they shouldn't mention that it was you that reported it.

It was very inconsiderate because he must have been able to see your washing.

Mind you unless I knew all my neighbours to talk to I'd feel a bit awkward knocking on doors in two streets to tell people.

I'd have just waited to light it until there was no washing out. Even that could be a bit annoying if someone just finished a big load and was waiting to put it out, but it wouldn't be as bad.
