AIBU?

DH insists we have the windows shut

in the front room this evening. He's watching TV and says he can't hear due to noise outside.

I think a bus went past about 10 minutes ago and there's the occasional car.

He insists we sleep with the bedroom windows closed too. Because the noise wakes him up in the morning.

He sleeps under a winter duvet. I'm sleeping on top of it under a sheet.

It's not right, is it.

Well it's your life , you live there too. Why does he get his way?

Tricky one. I am permanantly cold, wear jumpers all year round and have such good hearing I can hear bats (really).

My DP is alway hot, having lived in Africa as a child and is nearly deaf.

We compromise on the noise issue by having subtitles on the TV and him having headphones to listen to the TV through.

Just the same as my dh.

It's just not normal, I agree. Dh isn't happy unless he has hermetically sealed us in for the night.

I can barely breathe.

Why does he get his way?

Because he's insisting. And tbf, it's not often he does.

And if I just insist too, that would be silly wouldn't it.

At some stage one has to compromise.

Even if he's wrong.

Which he is, isn't he?

Anyone want to swap a hermatically sealed loving hubby for one who like windows wide open at night and no duvet?

My OH is truly terrified of spiders and as we live in a bungalow he is convinced that if a window is open spiders will get in.It is a genuine phobia so when it is very hot we have a fan on and sleep under just a sheet.I love it when we stay somewhere with an upstairs and can have windows open.

Pranma, conkers on the windowledges deter 8-leggy visitors. You can also get a deterrent spray from Bettaware (and probably something similar from B&Q). These might help as it's a phobia - same as a magic guardian teddy helps a nervous DC sleep at night.

Pranma - does your DH not realise that spiders are quite good at climbing??!!

Just get 2 duvets - an artic one for him and a silk one for you (single ones) and open window without him realising at night.

My DH complains about my bat hearing - luckily once I am asleep, little wakes me up except this noise.... "mummeeeeeee....mummmmmmeeeeeeeeeeeeeee"

Would 2 single duvets work? A heavy one for him and a lightweight one for you. Would he wear earplugs in bed (which would get him off the hook for getting up with the children). The wax earplugs are supposed to be comfortable and very good. My FIL is hard of hearing and has installed extra speakers for the TV beside 'his' chair.

Pranma, could you get mesh window screens to keep the spiders out?

Sorry-YABU!
I have to have windows closed due to noise, esp if watching something, and am under the winter duvet.
We should swap dhs... mine likes thin covers and windows open.

We haven't had the windows open this evening. We did in the day time but they were all shut after dinner. Are we weird too?

YANBU he is

Get a duvet that is designed so that you can 'shake' most of the fillng to one side and create a hot side and a cold side. Not sure what they are called - but you can buy them.

lowenergylightbulb - was wondering why that hadn't occured to him myself??

Windows shut and warm covers... take him to spain for a couple of months, cures you of the need to do both of these things After a summer there I can now sleep with no covers and with ALL the windows open
