MrKrabs YABU

MrKrabs Mon 22-Jun-09 09:18:33

lupus what else do we want free from mn?

Doodle2u Mon 22-Jun-09 09:20:06

Erm....I do this so that the name in question can see easily that the message is meant for them and other people reading the thread are not confused by "yes it was yesterday" appearing half way up a thread for, seemingly, no obvious reason!

YABU mrKrabs and I'm not stopping from doing it

MrKrabs Mon 22-Jun-09 09:20:49

No they need to READ it
you Doodle are singlhandely dumbing down the nation.
wHat do you have to say for yourself?

Doodle2u Mon 22-Jun-09 09:22:27

I'm DUMB and I'm proud!

OrmIrian Mon 22-Jun-09 09:22:30

Huzzah mrkrabs. I agree. It's a bit like being addressed by the headteacher - that special piercing tone of voice that they use when you are being very bad to reach through the surrounding racket. Don't like it. It makes me scared.

SpawnChorus Mon 22-Jun-09 09:23:18

Oooh you made me jump. Feel like I have been caught by the teacher doing that "Spawn loves distantloveobject x%" calculation on my notebook and am now required to answer question about the spinning jenny.

VinegarTits Mon 22-Jun-09 09:23:27

Why does it bother you, do you have a phobia of bold words?

MrKrabs Mon 22-Jun-09 09:24:09

Tortington Mon 22-Jun-09 09:24:18

i agree with doodle. some of us haven't got the time to read threads which can very easily go to posts in their hundreds. One doesn't always have to have the need to read evry single post as on the whole they will say the same thng in diferent ways. however if you are adressing a particular posters point that its good manners to address it to them, rather than slur and insipidly insinuate.

MrKrabs Mon 22-Jun-09 09:25:15

I get what you are saying but maybe if people READ the threads rather than skimming for bits for them it would lead to fewer misunderstandings?

VinegarTits Mon 22-Jun-09 09:26:46

'slur and insipidly insinute' i like that, i'm going to use that in RL grin

ChippingIn Mon 22-Jun-09 09:27:17

MrKrabs get over it.

As others have already said, it's mostly used to differentiate a name from the rest of the text.

Qally Mon 22-Jun-09 09:27:23

YABU. It's an internet convention and for a reason; as Custardo says, it's polite.

MrKrabs Mon 22-Jun-09 09:27:31

but do spell it right when you say it wont you Vt wink

fishie Mon 22-Jun-09 09:28:46

i agree it is irritating and exclusive. and rather rude to the other posters on the thread who don't get bolded.

fishie Mon 22-Jun-09 09:29:46

yes of course it is polite to address people custy, but no need to start with a big bold namecheck.

VinegarTits Mon 22-Jun-09 09:30:03

oh my goodness, i forgot my a shock

i'm so dumb for making a typo

MrKrabs Mon 22-Jun-09 09:31:02

Mn has managed for 8 years without it?
I am onyl asking.. no reason to be shirty

VinegarTits Mon 22-Jun-09 09:31:35

'and rather rude to the other posters on the thread who don't get bolded'

Arf at bold envy [grin

MrKrabs Mon 22-Jun-09 09:32:17

stop being so liberal with your stars

VinegarTits Mon 22-Jun-09 09:33:51

i was just pointing our my typo didn't want you to think i couldn't spell now MrKrabs wink

Tortington Mon 22-Jun-09 09:33:54

can i ask why you deliberatley draw attention to yourself considering the unfortunate circumstances leading to your short lived departure and constant name changing..which hides not a jot who you are.

It is trez bizarre. I can only conclude that you hanker after the spotlight?
