If I tell my MIL she has been taken for a ride by a Phillipino on a boat.....

MIL is 64, she thinks she is Chrystal Carrington. She wenmt on a cruise (that she can't afford but that's another story) and has come back in love.

It turns out the guy is in his <ahem> late thirtites, from the Phillipines and a wine waiter on the ship. Apprantly, he made her remember who she is and now she feels like a real woman.

Someone took a picture of the two of them together and he put it by the side of his bed...

Anyway, last night of the cruise, he disappeared, was apparatly called to another bar on the ship as an emergency, and the next morning when they were getting off she could not find him. He has her mobile number but suprise suprise has not called her....

He asked her to go on a Carribbean Cruise in November as he will have more time off to spen with her and she is going to book it tomorrow.

She has his email address and wants me to help her set up an email account.

So, AIBU in telling her she is a sily old fool and she will never hear from him again?

Ps DH is MORTIFIED by the whole affair....

MaryMotherOfCheeses Sun 21-Jun-09 13:32:12

Oh dear.

YANBU.

Help her set up an email account so she can talk to him. If he ever emails... Is it even his real address?

chamaeleon Sun 21-Jun-09 13:33:50

awww, what a shame. Email him from your account and try to convince mil not to book a hol before he replies

pickyvic Sun 21-Jun-09 13:35:56

omg your poor mil! no i think you should tell her...he could be trying to get into her bank account as well as her knickers. i think she probably got of lightly by the sounds of it.

if she wants to go for another cruise then thats fine but i think she maybe needs her eyes opening. if she goes fully understanding that the blokes probably arnt in for the long haul then fine and good on her but it would be sad if she got hurt because she hasnt understood what the blokes are after.

more power to her elbow at 64! but she needs to understand the reality of what she is doing.

TheCrackFox Sun 21-Jun-09 13:43:30

Oh, I feel very sorry for her. But, yes you have to tell her that he is taking her for a ride. She probably won't listen.

YANBU.

Morloth Sun 21-Jun-09 13:54:58

Is she mentally incompetent in any way? If not, then whatever she gets up to is not your business. If you don't want to hear about it tell her so, if you don't wan't to set up the email then don't.

Unless she is really silly then I can't imagine she is thinking this is anything other than a little holiday fling and if she is single then why not?

scottishmummy Sun 21-Jun-09 13:55:14

oh LOL just keep us all posted about her young-man-lovin and his smooth patter

DrNortherner Sun 21-Jun-09 13:57:08

Is she mentally incompetant? No, just a little bit, well, mental I guess.

And no, she is not single, her partner of 25 years is in a nursing home.

Disenchanted3 Sun 21-Jun-09 13:59:01

Just leave her to it.

scottishmummy Sun 21-Jun-09 14:02:45

up to her, more people protest the more her resolve to see Sweetlips will strengthen

Morloth Sun 21-Jun-09 14:06:16

hmmm that one is tricky then. She is entitled to live her life though.

Disenchanted3 Sun 21-Jun-09 14:06:54

Can you do me a favour? Whn you set up her email account can you let me know her addy?

I just that I have 1.2 million US dollars in an overseas account and if she will just give me her bank account number and sort code I'll be able to free the funds and ill transfer half to her...

grin

DrNortherner Sun 21-Jun-09 14:09:37

But what if dh gets a step father younger than him?!!!

scottishmummy Sun 21-Jun-09 14:10:14

bet Attentive Waiter butters all the ole dears up.not a dry seat in the house when he is on duty

and

yes i am an African prince in hiding and need to deposit some money.so send me bank details please.just resting in the account in the style of father ted

scottishmummy Sun 21-Jun-09 14:13:06

step father younger than yourself.straight to OK mag with that one i say

onagar Sun 21-Jun-09 14:23:23

Be aware of special deals he can get if she gives bank details etc, but try not to spoil the memory for her. It was real to her and a good memory to have.

HecatesTwopenceworth Sun 21-Jun-09 14:41:25

oh dear. I predict disaster. If she isn't careful, he will take all her money. It's sad how often this happens but when you tell them, they say I know, but this is different, it's true love...

It never is, of course.
