AIBU?

to expect paypal to let me have MY money?

Because they have basically told me they have limited my account meaning I can't send money but can continue to receive it?!

Basically over the last couple of years quite a bit of money has gone in/out of my paypal account due to buying and selling bits and bobs on ebay (the children's shoes, clothes, equipment, computer games etc) and also to and from mums on an attachment parenting site whilst I chopped and changed a lot of slings/baby carriers.

They are saying the reason I can't send money is for 'money laundering' reasons, they have a limit and at certain points over the last couple of years I have had to do various verification processes for them.

The most recent was asking me to change my password and security questions and a couple of other things, all of which I did straight away.

When I hadn't heard anything and couldn't pay for DS's new car seat, I sent them an email asking why my limitations haven't been lifted and informed them of what I was trying to do.

The email I got back basically said they suspect my account has been accessed by a third party and have limited my account for my own protection! Why they didn't mention this before I don't know - I check paypal regularly and can account for every transaction on there, I make it my business to know what's going on in there. I've had several of those phishing emails which I have forwarded to the spoof address they have and know I'm not supposed to click any links in these emails or anything.

So basically what paypal want me to do for an account they suspect of being accessed by someone other than me is to ask me to link my paypal account to a personal bank account and also send them a utility bill for proof of my address! I mean come on! There's no way in hell I'll be giving them any bank details!

I just want this fecking money released so I can buy my sodding car seat and close my account with them and be done, my name has changed after I got married anyway and I was going to set up new email and paypal etc at some point in the future. So I've sent an email stating the above and how ridiculous it is, asking them to release my funds asap and if they are unable to do this pass my case to someone more senior and that if they are still refusing to release my money I will be seeking legal advice.

Sorry for the rant, I'm soo pee'd at paypal and we really need this car seat (and don't have money for this car seat anywhere else apart from this paypal acct, I've been saving up specially for it).

So AIBU for being so pissed at them and what else can I do to get at my money?

Yeah they are shit. They won't let me withdraw more than £500 a month because I can't verify my bank account because they refuse to let me use my account details because they were previously on the account and Paypal closed it down because it wasn't working properly.

They drive me bloody barking.

You can close your account to get them to pay you btw. But remove your bank details first otherwise you won't be able to set up another account with them.

We had exactly the same and it took aaaaaggggggggggggeees to sort it out. We did upload a copy of a bill and I think there was something else, can't remember now, that we had to upload. We had to email lots of times, always getting the same reply from a different customer services operator. Eventually I think they just got fed up with us emailing all the time and let us have the access. I feel for you, it was a very frustrating time.

Yeah, it's doing my head in and it's only been restricted for a few days! I never linked my paypal to a bank account and have taken all card details off etc because for the small amounts that were going in there I just bought stuff from places that take paypal for stuff I need (cloth nappies, stuff from boots, slings etc etc).

Not sure how I would get my money back because of the no bank details scenario - but it's my money and you would think they have to let me have it right?
