I think I read somewhere that tail-gating is the number one cause of major accidents - it's not only dangerous it just makes everyone so bloody cross (therefore more dangerous)

Report
VinegarTits · 19/06/2009 08:59

Or maybe

'Are you in love with my bumper'

There should be a hotline you can call to report tag tailers

I really hate tail-gaters, drives me mental.
Although I do derive a little satisfaction out of letting my foot off the accelerator gradually until we're at a relative crawl.
Even more satisfying is seeing them lose their patience and overtake at considerable speed just as we're approached a concealed speed camera.
Probably not very clever of me, but they started it!!

I only passed my test a couple of years ago and my driving instructor told me the safest thing to do is slow down gradually because the braking distance is shorter at a lower speed and therefore the jackass behind you is less likely to ram you if you have to brake suddenly. As a bonus it also really pisses them off

I wish there were more police on the roads to deal with this sort of thing, I don't feel safe 90% of the time

I pull over to let them pass. I don't want someone mad and angry driving behind me, I'd rather let them drive far far away from me BEFORE they cause a crash.

I approached someone in a petrol station once on a long journey with the children and offered him a seat in between the children if he was really so desperate to watch In the Night Garden. He looked at me blankly and I said that I had assumed that as he was driving so closely up my rear end he must have been desperate to watch the DVD the children were watching so thought it only polite to offer him a seat so he sould see better.

He actually did laugh and stutteringly apologised for it, people aren'tused to being called up on it I don't think because you don't tend to some face to face with the other driver.

My dad also had a go at someone he was in his work van and my mum was in front in her car driving me and the dc's and this man was up my mums tail for almost 20 miles (including dual carriageway) he parked in the same suppermarket and my dad went striding over and gave him what for.."my wife, daughter and gradchildren were in that car" type of thing.
He said he was looking for somewhere to overtake about 3 miles was on dual carriagway.

Lol - I hate tailgaters too - and I think that Doodle2u's sign is the best!!!

I think my personal favorite for this is:

You wouldnt want any one to drive through your child!

but its a bit long

In some countries you get stiffly fined for driving too close

I did once see a beautiful car (Merc or similar) and in silver letters on the boot it said "I have 9 points on my licence...I'm not going to speed up" - thought it was brilliant!

I want one of those LED light signs which you can have text moving over - so that you can put the appropriate message up - I think Doodle2s sign would be in there, toegher with a 'switch your fog lights off, its not even overcast' and 'Your music sucks'.... any other suggestions?

Er, Vinegartits, i have to ask WTF where you doing 90 for???

Report
LibrasBiscuitsOfFortune · 19/06/2009 10:20

Doing 90 doesn't give you the automatic right to drive in the fast lane. The lane is there for overtaking not for people to just cruise in (if you were going 90 I presume you were on a motorway). Slowing down and playing with the brake is MORE dangerous, if you do have a wanker sitting on your tail the safest thing to do is let him/hr overtake.

Report
VinegarTits · 19/06/2009 10:28

I was on the motorway and i admit to going to fast, i wasnt just crusing in the fast lane, i was overtaking, but it seems i wasnt fast enough for this moron

i want one of those led signs

it's completely trivial but I always wash my windscreen - repeatedly... if they are that close behind you they get the spray and quite often take the hint after a while. It also makes me slow right down (and I'm not a slow driver).

YANBU to display a sign. I'm surprised how many people think it's a good idea to inflame the situation and cause greater danger by slowing down though. Be bigger than that, why not just move over?
