I went into an empty barber's shop to ask if he could trim dd (3) hair.

I was told 'we don't do ladies'

Bit peeved by his attitude TBH

Yesterday my hairdresser refused to give me a colonic irrigation - should I be annoyed?

Bleatblurt Thu 18-Jun-09 20:06:11

I'd be narked too. Not enough to post in AIBU with this lot though. wink

It wouldn't have taken long and the place was empty. I'd have though most barbers wouldn't have minded in that situation.

No nametaken, you should be flipping grateful!

Macdog Thu 18-Jun-09 20:07:30

She's not a lady though, she's 3.

I don't see the difference between a toddler boy's and toddler girl's hair

That is what's confusing me

notsoteenagemum Thu 18-Jun-09 20:08:35

Don't know if it's true but the barber I take ds to says he's only insured to cut mens/boys hair.

Macdog Thu 18-Jun-09 20:09:32

Well that makes a sort of sense.

Wish he's told me that instead of being 'snippy' wink

TheProvincialLady Thu 18-Jun-09 20:10:41

Oh boom boom Macdog! Admit it, you only made up started this thread just so you could make that cheap jokegrin

Goober Thu 18-Jun-09 20:11:09

Men's hair is easier to cut than women's. He therefor must be underqualified and not able to do anything unpredictable.

LOL grin

FabBakerGirlIsBack Thu 18-Jun-09 20:12:35

I took my youngest in to a barbers to get his hair cut and mentioned that dd wanted her fringe doing so he cut it. They were sooooo lovely with the kids and didn't charge for dd.

MaryBS Thu 18-Jun-09 20:12:58

I am horrified at all the cutting comments on here!

You should have told the barber she was a boy, who liked wearing pink dresses.

Macdog Thu 18-Jun-09 20:13:18

He's a git anyway!

She's booked in to PROPER multitasking hairdresser tomorrow for a new 'do

SoupDragon Thu 18-Jun-09 20:49:34

Is it legal to refuse to serve someone on the basis of their sex?

katiestar Thu 18-Jun-09 21:27:19

No it isn't legal .I think I am right in saying there have been court cases pertaining to this and also to unisex salons who charge different prices for the same cut to a man and a woman

What Goober said.

Goober Thu 18-Jun-09 21:50:53

<<Takes a bow.>>

mayorquimby Fri 19-Jun-09 11:50:09

but if it's not legal katiestar how come they have can have those "curves" women only gyms? i thought there were caveats in place so you could have certain gender specific businesses.

Fimbo Fri 19-Jun-09 11:52:36

Am I the only one loling at "no we don't do ladies".grin She's only 3.

toddlerama Fri 19-Jun-09 11:59:40

Why would he sit in an empty barbershop turning away paying customers? Perhaps it's not a real barbershop?

Macdog Fri 19-Jun-09 12:00:14

I know Fimbo. my chin hit deck at that one grin
I could see the point if I wanted her to have an ultra girly/curly/up do, but all I wanted was a quick chop to get the ends tidied up a bit.

Could tell he 'doesn't do ladies', though - mair mince than the butcher's shop grin
