I dont give to charity

I dont want to change energy supplier

If you knock and wake up my newborn, do not be upset when I close the door in your face!!!

Friends/family and pizza delivery person welcome

I cant cope with these people anymore asking me to give them money. As im on maternity leave ive been in the house more often and am getting fed up of them all!!!

Would ibu to put that sign on my door?

No you wouldn't. I used to have a similar one about junk mail, but got fed up with running outside to scream at the idiot who'd just put a menu through my door.

YANBU.

Make sure to add:

I don't need my trees trimmed/garden tended to

I don't want any Avon products

I don't want a fresh fish delivery service

Not at all unreasonable
We've had a spate of energy supplier/cable salesmen/broadband salesmen all of whom think it's fine to knock on my door like the fist of God, fag in hand and get affronted when I politely (and gods know how I am polite with some of them) tell them I'm not interested.

I have got a sign on my letter box saying addressed mail only/no junk mail/menus/leaflets. Doesn't seem to make the slightest bit of difference.

I also have a 'no hawker's' sign by the door. Again, ignored. TBH it is not a major problem but I still HATE people trying to sell me anything at my door, whatever it is.

Within the next sixth months I am pretty sure I am going to buy a entryphone kind of thing, so that I can see and speak to people without opening the door.

However, when DS was a baby I did used to put up a sign saying mother and new baby sleeping please do not knock unless you are delivering something or it is an emergency. I don't know whether it worked or not but I never got any calls during that time (but may not of anyway).

Anyway, TOTALLY reasonable!

I am getting so bored that I almost want a cold caller to phone so I can have some fun...

You know those 'million chintzy tunes' doorbells? They should invent one where you can record your own message:

'If you're not a friend, family or takeaway delivery person FOOOK OFF! If you ARE friend, family or takeaway delievery person please knock secret knock previously agreed'

'Fresh fish...thats a new one on me!!'

Me as well! Especially because he first asked if I was the homeowner...then 'do you occasionally like to eat fresh fish?'

I assume it must have been a delivery service...or some very very strange market research.

That is so strange.

We would have to say no to that to, my bil is a skipper on a fishing boat and would be very upset if we got fish from anyone else.

just don't answer the door. If someone you don't know is knocking on your front door then, trust me, they want your money.

I've put a little note under my door bell that says 'No cold callers', as I was getting plaugued by them. Its been there about 3 or 4 months and only the JW's have ignored it!

YANBU

YANBU. However, you need to bear in mind that some people may not be able to read your sign either because they cannot read or because they do not understand english.

I also had sign on door when DCs were tiny saying "baby asleep. only knock in emergency". Seemed to work for us.

I had a small sign by our door in London saying:- 'Sorry, no utilities switchers, direct-debit charities or direct sellers'. It seemed to work.

I have no problem with giving a pound to a good old-fashioned charity tin shaker but I can't stand chuggers. Should they ignore the sign, adopt a slight accent and tell people that you don't have a UK bank account and (if double glazing salesmen or utilities switchers) you rent and the landlord handles everything like that. It's just quicker and easier than entering into any discussion.

Our neighbour had a fresh fish delivery on a Wednesday - it stinks!!!!

The kind of person that becomes a door-to-door salesman normally see those signs

I also tell people that its a rented property - they move quick fast then!

Your sign would be very reasonable. It may not work though.
The council have put a sign on the lamp post at the end of my street saying it's a 'no cold callers zone', and have given us all sticky notices to put in our windows.
It doesn't stop the religious loonies, the driveway pavers, the doubleglazing salesmen or the people who 'just want to check if you're getting the lowest rate electricity' (right).
Some of them go away when I mention it, but lots claim the council have given them special permission! I've never gone as far as asking to see it as I just want to get rid of them.

we have a half hidden sign from the previous owners, but i must admit i now answer the door after a terrible incident that still haunts me,i was hoovering upstairs when a religious group knocked on my door,(i had already spotted them a few doors up so knew it was them)i shouted down to the children when they knocked"dont answer the door its just people pushing their religious beliefs on us",i looked out the window upstairs still hoovering away to my horror it was a very elderly lady being pushed in her wheelchair by a younger member, yes they were still door knocking but i hated that i had disrespected an elderly lady

My Sign Say's,

BEFORE YOU RING MY BELL PLEASE READ:

NO SALESMEN
we have everything we need

NO CANVASSERS
We do not do survey's and are happy with our household suppliers.

NO RELIGIOUS CALLERS
we are happy as we are

NO CHARITY COLLECTIONS
We do not give our personal deatails to strangers.

IF YOU IGNORE THIS NOTICE THE DOOR WILL BE CLOSED WITHOUT FURTHER EXPLANATION !!!

This has worked brilliantly since putting it up 4 months ago.

I have only had One JW knocked the door before reading and read it as he was waiting for a reply.
As soon as i opened the door he apologised profoundly and couldn't get away quick enough. He looked Terrified!!!
