AIBU?

to hate the very idea of online shopping and absolutely refuse to participate?

For one - i haven't got a credit card (by choice - can't spend money i don't have), and even if i did, how secure are 'secure' pages, really?

For two - how can i try shoes on over an ethernet cable? how can i feel the fabric of a scarf (obv so i know if i'm going to find it itchy, not because i'm some sort of Cloth-Snob).

For three - if you end up with damaged or unsuitable goods how much more awkward is it to send them back? (That's a genuine question - i really don't know!)

And finally - when you get grocery shopping online how irritating is it when you end up with a box of eighteen petits filous which go off tomorrow?

Come on - is it really that great?

it is that great when you are not able to get out, or if getting out also means you have to taken your monsters with you, and you cannot stand the lighting in the shop...etc etc.

not great for all the time, but to save time occasionally...tis FANTASTIC!!

I am absolutely 100% with you.

I can put up with all the barking till assistants and wobbly trolleys in the world.

There's something so... disempowering about it. I hate the idea of tendering out my eating choices and giving tesco/ sainsburys/ asda/ wotever yet another bit of control over my life.

YANBU to not fancy it.

However I personally love it. I use it every week or two for my main shop. Did use Sainsburys but have found Ocado now and they are fab. Also do some other online shopping for things like books, CDs, DVDs, DD's clothes, etc.

1 - without a CC it wouldn;t be possible. I do think most software ont hese big sites are pretty secure these days, but obviously like when you pay for anything on CC they are not foolproof. CC are insured though so you get yor money back quite painlessly if cc fraud oocurs.

2 - clothes is a pain yes. I tend to only use sites of stores I use in RL too where I know the sizing and quality. You also get used to different stores and know what to expect.

3 - supermarket shopping is very easy as you can send it back there and then as it arrives very easily. Otherwise most is just a case of emailing or calling the store and then posting back. Have only had to do it once or twice over the last few years though.

4 - Ocado bill lists the best before date on the receipt, which is given to you at the start of the delivery. If the date is too short you can send it back. They rarely, if ever, are though.

Ocado's fab! It makes my life soo much easier. I really hate the supermarket and it free's up my time. Don't knock it till you've tried it!

YANBU to hate it yourrslef. It is a personal choice.

I do a lot of shopping online, mostly for things I do not need to touch/feel/try on, like books and stuff.

I don't have a car so do the occasional online shop to stock up. Have never had a problem with stuff near its sell-by date.

i love it! I just have to sit here on my sofa and tap away for 30 mins and in a couple of days a very nice delivery person brings it to my door and i just have to put it in the cupboards. No trips to town trying to cram it all in the bottom of the pushchair, no trips out of town to the big supermarkets in the car hauling 2 small dc's about, bliss.

don't knock it if you haven't tried it .

You're mad. It is not disempowering. It is the complete opposite.

You are not tied to trudging round shops with millions of children in tow or husbands rushing you.

You can plan in advance and suss everything out online.

You can send things back JUST LIKE THAT trying them on in the comfort of your own home. They send you packaging, labels, even sometimes send their courier to collect who you just phone. Or sometime just drop off at your local post office.

Admittedly I have had 18 pizzas all to be used today. But not with Ocado which is more expensive but works out in the end because a. we don't waste as much food from them and b. we don't end up with no food and have to succumb to takeways instead, wiping out all savings.

Come on, try it, you will love it. It saves LOADS of time and effort.

Pretty secure btw. I have done it for years and not yet (touch wood) had any problems.

Ps I don't have a credit card either.

You can pay for stuff online with a debit card, or paypal. It's just as safe as swiping your card in a shop tbh, I used to run an online shop

and what about ebay?! You can't diss that. I don't know what I'd do without ebay.

I have to say that Tesco online has been my saviour! Stops me overspending as I just order what I need. If I'm not happy with any of the produce, I call them and they refund for it. I once wasn't in when they arrived (oops) - called them and they said no problem we'll re-do your shop tomorrow and deliver again at no extra charge. Marvellous service! Taking my DC into a supermarket is a pain in the butt as I've got as long as it takes for them to eat a bag of Hula Hoops to do my shopping before they kick off and I forget everything I've gone in for!

That's gone wrong. Meant to say - agree re grocery shopping - I only remember to try to shop online when I need stuff now

Other stuff = love buying online. Like getting parcels

1.Most (all?) online stores take Debit Cards. So not money you don't have.

  1. You can't try stuff on. If it doesn't fit, you send it back. Which is fine because..

  1. Returns are a piece of piss.

And the only downside to grocery online shopping is the billions of carrier bags it takes to deliver one standard family shop.

and it is lovely having a man knock on the door with a parcel, rather than bills be shoved thru the letterbox

I tried it once.

I was annoyed by all the hard avocadoes

You don't have to have carrier bags with some online supermarkets though.. Certainly with Tesco I think you can request not to.

And they gave me some naff processed shite as a replacement for some real food that wasn't in store at the time. Can't remember what now.

(Tescos -v. low grade. I wonder what Aldi delivery would be like? )
