... We'll be gotten rid of because DP has an Irish grandad? Or I'll get lesser pay for being female?

I'm unsure on how politics work, as it worries me so I try not to hear about it.

But I do want to clear up the rumours for my own peace of mind so can someone please explain to me?

VinegarTits Mon 08-Jun-09 15:44:44

No it doesnt mean that, they may have won a couple of seats as MEP, but they will never be voted in to run the country

TotallyAndUtterlyPaninied Mon 08-Jun-09 15:46:26

Phew

ilovesprouts Mon 08-Jun-09 15:49:10

thank god grin

Read their manifesto, listen to what they are saying. No matter how they try to dress it up, the truth of what they really think (and want to do) comes out fairly clearly. I won't link to their site - could seem like endorsement or something (shudders). I cried this morning when I heard they'd got two seats then had to explain why to my nine and five-year old daughters. The phrase "stinky BNP" was used more than once.

VinegarTits Mon 08-Jun-09 16:09:11

They may have won a few people over with their watered down, bullshit excuse for a manifesto, but the Monster Raving Lunies actually have more chance of being voted in during the next general election

Bucharest Mon 08-Jun-09 16:11:04

We hope. Let's hear it for the Monster Raving Loonies.
OP- you forgot to add the bit about your husband being able to rape you at whim and you not being allowed to divorce him because apparently women like it really.
sad

Are the MRL still around. Screaming Lord Such died a while ago now and I havent heard of them since.

There would be riots if the BNP got in

jambutty Mon 08-Jun-09 16:19:43

Why don't people think the BNP will get any further?
They already have a big presence on councils like Stoke on Trent and have just got 2 MEPS in. I think the major parties have a responsibility to take a good hard look at what they have been doing that's so wrong that people felt the BNP was a real alternative before this gets out of hand nad ten years down the line unholy alliances are being made. No, maybe they won't get in but their popularity in some quarters could result in mainstream parties becoming more right wing to try and steal back votes, don't you think? This is not a time for complacency.
(Steps gingerly down from soap box - sprained ankle)

TheShipsCat Mon 08-Jun-09 16:24:23

The BNP didn't get more votes than they've had before - it was just that other parties less votes. So they are not more popular than they were, just benefited from a unique situation.

jambutty Mon 08-Jun-09 16:26:06

No, but because of that unique situation they now have something to build on. I suspect that is exactly what they will try to do.

TheShipsCat Mon 08-Jun-09 16:34:04

I'm sure you're right. As you say, its no time for complacency for the other parties. But it was kind of heartening to know their share of the vote hadn't gone up.

Bucharest Mon 08-Jun-09 16:34:46

And now they're "in", they'll put more acceptable looking thugs people into nice suits with winsome smiles onto the television, keep the dogs chained up and only let out when the cameras are off, and get even more votes next time.

I hope all the other MEPs stage a walk-out like the politicians did with Ahemdinajad (sp?) a few weeks ago.

AnathemaDevice Mon 08-Jun-09 16:42:58

I've signed this and passing the link on to as many people as possible, hopefully it will let the European parliament, as well as Griffen and his cronies, know that the majority of the people in Britain do not support the BNP.
Just out of interest, how do the BNP plan to 'repatriate' my part English, part Irish, part Malaysian Chinese DS?

rooftop Mon 08-Jun-09 16:49:43

Complacency of the masses have allowed atrocities such as the bnp to happen. We seem to think that 'it' will never happen in our little patches of civilisation. Hitler didnt suddenly decide to kill a few million people----he slowly encroached over years. Extremists are a danger to our fragile peace and we should ensure that even the seemingly smallest of their steps ---are halted.
If you are interested in signing a petition expressing discontent at this new mep, go to the hope not hate website.

TheCrackFox Mon 08-Jun-09 17:00:20

You have a point Bucharest but I am hoping that now they are in their mask will slip. They are bound to show what a bunch of low lives they really are.

AnathemaDevice Mon 08-Jun-09 17:02:19

Rooftop, that's the petition I've linked to- it's got 19,000 or so signatures so far, so there's quite a way to go to. Hopefully more people will sign this than voted BNP (close on one million votes, which is a terrifying thought)

Lucia39 Mon 08-Jun-09 17:02:36

Maybe a lunatic Islamist will burn down the Houses of Parliament!!! wink

knockedgymnast Mon 08-Jun-09 17:52:47

AnathemaDevice - nearly 1 million votes??

Goodness me, didn't realise it was that many shock

Just out of interest, are the UKID running along the same vein as the BNP?

Itsjustafleshwound Mon 08-Jun-09 17:55:22

But the scary thing is, is that this swing to far right parties is europe wide ... these fools are getting a hold ...

wombleprincess Mon 08-Jun-09 17:55:59

errr lucia39....lunatic islamist what are you talking about?

georgiemum Mon 08-Jun-09 17:56:56

I can just see them sitting in Brussels refusing to speak to 'all those bloody foreigners'.

wombleprincess Mon 08-Jun-09 18:02:58

georgiemum Mon 08-Jun-09 18:04:28

wombleprincess Mon 08-Jun-09 18:07:00
