AIBU?

To not want to have to take half a day off work because of a mistake by the DVLA?

I was due to take my driving theory test yesterday, booked about a month ago as Saturday slots are difficult to get hold of. Having spent the morning burning stopping and braking distances into my retinas, I turned up half an hour before I was due to take the test. When I arrived I showed my documents to the receptionist, only to be told my name wasn't on the list. Luckily I had my confirmation letter which showed I was actually meant to be there, so he called head office to find out what was going on. It turns out my test was 'cancelled by phone' the day after my confirmation was sent, although they couldn't say who by... and it definitely wasn't me!

AIBU to be livid that not only did I waste a morning turning up for a test which they have clearly cancelled in error without even letting me know, but that I now have to either wait 6 weeks for the next available Saturday slot or take half a day off work to take a test in 10 days time?

I probably should have said in my OP, I need to be able to drive by the end of the summer because we are moving and I'll need to have the use of a car. So waiting til mid-July for my theory test really isn't ideal as I can't book a practical test until I've passed the theory.

could you not try another local test centre I found local ones had more availability than my own and were easier as although only bus ride away fitted my requirements better
