In Clarks, choosing shoes for LO and she turns to me and asks "Mummy can I have Lelli-Kelly shoes?"! How sad that advertising can reach children at this tender age!?

Needless to say she did NOT get lelli-kellis but was equally delighted with her Clarks (which she refers to as lelli-kellis despite being told they're not- but hey she's happy) and there'll be no more channel 5 in this house.

What age did advertising start working its magic on your DC?

Going by the enthusiasm dd puts into dancing to the Lelli Kelly advert, I would say we're next. She was 2 a fortnight ago.

No YANBU and I thank god that I have a DS or no doubt he'd be bleating on about those stupid shoes too. This is why I largely watch cbeebies. And is it my imagination or didn't they only have ads on milkshake at weekends before but now suddenly they are every morning?

Advertising works on very young children - they are highly highly susceptible to suggestion

My DD is 4. When I was hairdrying her hair the other day she said 'Mummy you shouldn't brush it when its wet, you can break it'. I said 'How do you know that' and she said 'Its off the advert'!!

She also sings 'Cillit Bang and the dirt is gone' all the time. Oops.

I know - isn't it awful that they put those bloody ads on at least twice in every break? We also watch much more cbeebies any how but C5's made its mark still.

we only allowed cbeebies but have had a few milkshake experiences and dd ran into kitchen grabbed me and pulled into living room to show me the lelli kelli advert

My DB was telling me a couple of weeks ago how much he loathed Lelli Kelly shoes. DN (2.5) then turns up with a pair. I ask him if his DP likes them, he says no. How did she end up with said hated shoes I ask.

It turned out she went shopping with her Mum and baby sister who was needing shoes, went and picked up some Lelli Kellys, took them to the lady at the counter and said 'Lady, I love these shoes' Her Mum decided to get them since she loved them that much. Not sure I would have given in, but that was rather sweet

My girls are fascinated by the Vanish adverts- they are always pestering me to buy it because it has the power of pink!

Thankfully they are not impressed by the Lelli-Kelli shoes as they are far too old for them at 6 and 7 (according to them).

It's that darn catchy tune and the plastic tat you get with it. At 3.5 my dd only wanted them for the lip gloss that came with it

My DD also now dislikes Lelli-kelly's and she is 7. Have you seen those awful silver ones with the heels on the new advert .

Both mine could recognise a McDonalds sign from 400 metres away from about 18 months .

Haven't seen the awful shoes suwoo, but can imagine. It amazes me that parents buy into these shoes though, I imagine they are more expensive than say, Clarks, but with heels??? Can't be good for their feet and tbh the price you pay is for those "extras", make-up for god's sake, stickers, lollies..none of which are of equivalent value and after all you are buying a pair of shoes. If you wanted all that other crap surely you'd be in a toy shop.

DS 2.2 likes singing the lelli-kelli song - but I'm not entirely sure he understands what an advert is yet i.e. you can buy the shoes (and he'd probably look a bit daft in them anyway!) He does sit up and watch when he sees an ad for a bob the builder toy/postman pat toy - but again, not sure yet if he knows those things are 'available' to him (or not, as the case may be...)

they do the hard sell on milkshake on channel 5 in the mornings, which DD often watches used to watch in the morning while I am getting ready I prefer cbeebies, who doesn't, but at the weekends Carrie and David's Popshop and its ilk are just plain crap, BBC or not! (I'd prefer it if she never watched any of this stuff but you lose a lot of your ideals when you become a parent, I find)

I see - no, we don't do milkshake in the mornings... the girls prefer to fight about whether it's going to be teletubbies or high school musical on the dvd... but I will remind myself amid the shreiking that at least they're not on at me for crappy shoes small mercies!!

Leonie, how spooky, my DS6 told me in tesco last week that he wanted to buy me the same tablets for me for my birthday !!!! so that my dishes would be all sparkly (perhaps he has the same good ideas about buying gifts that his dad has - kitchen timer & a mattress have been the highlights so far but that is probably another thread)

Dd (3.9) is totally sucked in by the Lelli Kelli advert, on Milkshake. Plus her friends have some. We just can't afford to spend so much on some shoes.
Everytime she see's it she says ' I want some of those...'

I find that lelly kelly ad with the magic wand thing seriously disturbing, because I am sure tehre are some very very upset and disappointed little girls once they realise that the magic wand isn't really able to do magic....

my ys does make me smile, because whenever he sees a bottle of cillit bang (at home, anybody elses home or in the supermarket) he will say " Cillit Bang and the dirt is gone"....he puts on a voice for that, too...
