AIBU?

To be really annoyed at this 'song'

DS has just been listening to a song called 'cancer' and the lyrics go on about being "soggy from chemo" and "I'm counting down the days to go" "the hardest part of this is leaving you" "I'll know that I'll never marry" etc etc

We lost someone to cancer a few years ago and this song has upset me so much. Why on earth would anyone write a song like that??

AIBU to ban DS from listening to it?

sometimes things can come over very insensitive

songs are a form of expression though

Sounds very tasteless, especially considerering how many people will have experience of it, sadly.... but there are so many out there.

Even old ones like "Suicide is painless" are going to hurt someone. And then that horrible line from Rhythm is a Dancer "I'm serious as cancer when I say Rhythm is a Dancer" really uneccessary.

I was listening to the radio last week and a song came on called "A Kiss with a Fist (is better than none)" it's quite new, and it struck me that it's a really innapropriate message to be giving kids - then wondered if I am BU and getting old??

Anyway not sure if you are U or not, maybe we get more sensitive when we're mums (or have more life experiences) to the kind of thing we didn't notice before?

I can understand how that feels, but songs will always have the potential to upset people. They are often intended to provoke an emotional reaction. Consider all the songs about breaking up and how they'd feel to someone who just had. All the songs about being lonely too.
