YA absolutely NBU. There has to be a limit somewhere. Surely this woman understands this?
If she wants to have big parties, and can afford it, that is up to her.

If your DS isn't as good a friend with this lad as he is the others that are coming then stick to your limits, otherwise where do you draw the line, its so hard.

I got sick of trying to please everyone else and inviting people because I didn't want to offend the mother. I don't worry about it now to be honest (mine are 6 and 7). Thats life, there are loads of parties and sometimes you get to go and sometimes you don't. No big deal.

YANBU. If parties are too big the DC doesn't enjoy them anyway. Don't feel guilty!

YANBU. Most people have to/want to limit numbers at birthday parties, it's just one of those things and 8 sounds a reasonable number for a 3 year old's party. I'm assuming you will have parents staying so it's not just one more child, it's potentially child, mum plus 2 toddlers.
