Slowness at the pumps

Why, why, why would you delibrately take your time and faff around in the petrol station when you can see a huge queue behind your car?

Take Man No1 yesterday. Tesco petrol station packed out, queue actually stretching OUT of the petrol station...

So he climbs out of his car at a leisurely pace and strolls over to the pumps. Faffs about with the computer thing, bends down and starts talking to someone through the car window ... has a good laugh and then finally picks up the pump. There are about 7 cars behind him.

He fills the car up (and he must have filled it cos he was there ages) and then slowly screws the cap back on and has another chat with someone in the car before strolling to the shop. He faffs around for ages in the shop looking at magazines etc and then finally joins the huge queue to pay.

When he'd done that he strolls from the shop, across the court and climbs into the car and sits there having a good old chat with whoever was in the car before finally turning the bloody key and moving!!!

Other examples are people that climb into their car after paying only to sit there and eat a sandwich before they set off!!! People who get in the car and faff around with the radio before moving ... god the list goes on but WHY???

It's so selfish I feel like just bumping their car, knocking it out of the petrol spot and saying "soz, times up, budge"

YANBU. This drives me insane. As does people who are so stupid they queue for ages so they can get a pump on the right side of their car, the hose will reach across your car you donut, and make me queue when i'm not daft enough to think only 50% of pumps are accessible by my car.

Hate it, hate it, hate it. Our local petrol station only employs idiots, and what used to be a slow process is now a million times worse because they have turned the shop into a M&S Food, which means that people loiter for ages choosing effing posh crisps and guacamole, whereas before the only option was rancid sandwich or three day old pasty.

Had complete meltdown in there when I was about 8 months pregnant with little Ff. Queued in the car for so long I was convinced that the baby was going to be born on the forecourt, then when I eventually got petrol into the car ran in and picked up a Sunday Times for me and Mens Health for Bloke (I think he believes that looking at the pictures of the six-packed men for long enough will get him one of his own. A six pack, that is, not a six-packed man. I don't think he wants one of them...) and got into the checkout queue. TWENTY MINUTES later, and the moron cheerfully clueless guy behind the counter tried to charge me £7.99 for the stupid magazine, because it said on the cover that there was a free gift worth £7.99 included. End of tether was reached, and strong words were used. I now drive the extra ten minutes to use the pay-at-pump station in town!

YANBU, but please don't get behind me. I have a new (second hand)car and the immobiliser is very sensitive and keeps coming on. Once it does I cannot move the car for a while. Have to keep getting out locking it, unlocking it several times before the engine will start. Sorry!!!!

Naturalblonde - I too used to think that ALL pump hoses would reach across cars. However, after putting my credit card into a pay-at-pump at Asda a couple of months ago, I can confirm that not all do (and yes I was parked close to the pump) and caused more of a queue by running to the cashier in a panic to try to cancel the whole thing!

God I hate this, it is so rude!!

What annoyed me more was the woman who when there was a queue for the pumps, parked at the pump but didn't put petrol in and just went into the shop, aaaarrrrrgh!!!!

I said to he when she came out "Why did you park at the pump when there was a massive queue and you weren't going to use it?" and she said "well I was only going to be 2 minutes".

There was plenty of space for her to park away from the pumps!

I can confirm that not all pumps stretch across after making a fool of myself by trying it first then manouvering the car closer and it still didn't reach. I was so embarassed I got back in the car and drove to the other petrol station!!

I think you are being a bit unreasonable... go in the evening when it's quieter, bit like supermarkets - you can't get p'd off with the queues if you go at busy times.
If someone wishes to take their life at a leisurely pace, well, good on them - too much blaming - complaining - expecting to be first in the queue all the time

calm down love

take a breath and relax

ha ha ha ha... VT!! I used to do the same with cars up my backside when driving my little 2CV... they don't do fast - but they do uber slow with aplomb! [grin}

Yes i cant understand why people get in such a rush anyway, they must have very bad time management. Coming out if the shop then doing the 'lighgt bulb on look' like you just remembered something else and going bcak in is a good way to annoy these always in a rush type people

Mmm, depends on when you ask me. Three weeks of the month and I'd say well whats the hurry anyway? We spend far too much time racing around like headless chickens - I'm all for lets just slooow down a bit and cut the stress.

Then again, during the other week of the month I would like to smash these peoples heads against the sodding pumps and scream in their ear get-out-my-sodding-way-can't-you-see-I'm-bloody-busy?

Loving those hormones...

I know it's the credit crunch and every penny counts but i HATE that Sainsburys and Tesco give 5p off ltr of petrol if you spend over £50 because you can ONLY use this offer if you pay at the counter rather than at the pump which of course causes even longer bl**dy queues. SO YANBU.
