AIBU?

for wanting RID of the AIBU board?

Fair do's it was a good idea, but one that has (I think) contributed to the (alomst) constant tetchyness on MN - think back to the days before the IABU board, when we al had to at least try to be bloody reasonable - that being the point of MN!!

Sorry about that and anyways...I kind of like the idea of self responsiblity and since the AIBU biard came up, things have been getting much less reasonable:

I think this is cos of

Whoever came up/or okayed the board title had no idea of the strength of meme they were unleashing on MN and it has taken over. It wil devour MN and all the good will there in. Just look at channel 5 FGS!

solutiuon - close it down (not an option as I know its so popular) or call it something else not so reasonable - like tantrums and tiaras!

Well I happen to agree with you. I think it is tedious in the extreme.

But you know what everyone is going to say here don't you? Hide the topic! I have it showing at the moment but I usually have it hidden.

In fact, off to hide it now.

YABU

before the AIBU topic we just had threads called 'am I being unreasonable 4824758702' though. They were still there, but all over the place instead of being contained in one area (that you can hide).

However I do love the idea of calling it tantrums and tiaras - taht would get my vote

I wish I could grin, but I am rather sad about it.

(Not posting under my usualy imfamous name either as a test to see if I can stay generally.)

Thonk T&T is waht they callit on Netmums. Just using it as anj example but it is a good examole of somethintg taht one has to think 'am I' before postimg, whereby AIBU is just normal everydayu fayre!

Rwinset, 3 times a day is quite a habit. Aren't you beginning to feel that you are being unreasonable?

Anythiong that encoutages a bit of sefl reflection would be good for me

I love aibu.

I really do.

Nothing more satisfying than plunging in and saying 'YABFU'

The threads were there before the specific topic was, they will still be there if it is removed.

I get fed up of the number of ridiculous ones that are posted very day. 90% of them aren't even real AIBU questions.

AIBU to think Brad Pitt has nice legs? AIBU to like watching Dragons Den? That kind of thing. If you want to talk about that kind of thing, use a different topic.

Mine are all authentic, I resent that slur.

I likes it

And what is "the strength of meme" that is being unleashed? That sounds exciting

It keeps the righteous indignation to one area! It's also a very good sounding board- not for 'AIBU to run over the lollipop lady' type threads, but for those where people are genuinely unsure. If the OP is open to comments then it can actually be quite a calm, pleasant thread where people try to suggest compromises and possible solutions.

"It keeps the righteous indignation to one area!" pmsl

I have to disagree

surely righteous indignation is what mn is about? It's practically the site slogan.

perhaps it's something from Dr Who, like "the face of Boe" - maybe it's his evil twin?

I have a suspicion that people like it because it comes up at the top (cos it starts with A) and so people post there because they know that most people are too lazy to scroll down to another bit of the alphabet, and so they will get more responses by being in AIBU, even if it is something which is not really a matter for being reasonable or not. If it changed to Tantrums and Tiaras, people would forget it was there and stop posting, or set up devious sub-groups of "Behaviour and development", such as "Behaviour - is this bad behaviour or not?". Maybe.

but people feel justified in being nasty when replying to a topic on this board.

The amount of times I've read "well you posted this in ibu so you should expected to be beaten to a pulp" and imo that is uncalled for. Just because someone posts something in a particular topic does not give others licence to pile in and say what they want regardless of potential upset caused.

I do think you have a point there Wannabe - but maybe a warning at the top of the topic/individual threads would be better than banning it. Cos it's not the case in all AIBU and it does occur on threads in other topics, but it is worse on AIBU than anywhere else.
