dp is chronically ill and has a disabled badge,so is dd (Though obviously doesn't park the car!)If so it is legal.

massive who ha about this outside my school the other day. A man who lives opposite and has children attending the school was having a go at a woman who was double parked as his kids had nearly been knocked over the day before. he ranted at this woman who just ignored him completely he then went on to mona at a car behind that had done the same thing. The first woman then decded to try and do a three point turn and almost reversed into some school children coming out of the gate. A young lad got out of the car holding a long torch (WTF) and asked the man what was so rong with picking the child up from school, spectacularly missing the point.

We constantly have letters home, sometimes a traffic warden and a eacher who moans but every parent who does it thinks they are the exception to the rule.

I know!!! I find it so incredible. There is no street parking around our school, but an enormous car park right next door where it costs 20p for 1/2 hour.
ds2 stopped a boy in his class last week who was dropped off on the yellow lines and proceeded to lecture him on why it was a silly and dangerous thing to do. So if a 7 yr old can understand it what is wrong with these people.?..

It pisses me off no end. Especially when I'm legally parked on the one side of the road and some twunt parks exactly opposite me on the zigzags, usually with a mobile welded to their ear. How many Highway Code violations can you make in one go?

I do understand if you're disabled (dd has mobility problems) but tis not legal even for disabled on the zigzags is it?

Our school asked parents to stop driving into the carpark to drop off children as it was dangerous for all the children walking or cycling in.

School got a big sliding gate which they shut between 8.30 and 9am

The same cohort of parents now park properly or lurk on the yellow lines but as it's a narrow street they can't lurk for very long or drive away too fast so all in all it's much safer.

I drop off the zigzags by the coach drop off, but I do have permission from the head teacher, as I have a 8 seater car and drop of up to 5 children, she said I was almost as big as the mini bus.

or parents that park so far on the pavement I can't get out my gate with the pushchair........fair enough residents on our side of the street DO park up on the pavement (the other side doesn't - and if someone does they get a good telling off ), but it is PERFECTLY possible to park so that people can still get in and out of their houses.....

IMO they are bone idle and ignorant individuals who clearly have no appreciaton of the pair of working legs with which they have been blessed.

Agree it is very dangerous for the kids and others walking/crossing roads near gates.

But then, as a child I took a bus to school then a 1.5 mile walk, so perhaps I am biased!

Some of us have to go straight to work so are not able to walk the kids to school (and are not bone idle or remotely ignorant), much as we'd like to!

At my kids school, there is no parking whatsover (they did have a parents car park I believe but sold the land off - there is a private nursery on there now with it's own large car park which school parents are not allowed to use)! People have to park on the street which is perfectly wide enough but the council decided to paint yellow lines down it and now we run the risk of getting a ticket .

DH does this because he has a disabled badge, so it is perfectly legal. When I do the school run (only once a week) I park three streets away and walk with them. Often I threaten to kiss them goodbye in the playground, which would of course make them die of shame. It's nice. Maybe the parents are a bit disorganised? Not leaving enough time for the school run?

i have the holy grail of my school world, which is a pass to enable me to sweep by everyone fighting for a parking space outside the gates, and into the school car park, on account of ds2 being in a wheelchair

it's one of the few times i see people look at me pushing ds2 about with envy

frustrated mum - sorry I don't buy that one - could you cycle occasionally - or park 500 metres down the road and walk that bit? Unless a physical disability is the issue - nobody needs to park on the schools doorstep - and the council have put yellow lines there for safety reasons not to piss you all off.

I understand about taking car if you have to drive on to work or whatever, but THAT DOESN'T MEAN YOU HAVE T PARK OUTSIDE THE GATES (oops caps I am not ranting that much)

frustratedmumof3 perhaps the lines are to stop you all parking there and making it difficult for all the other people you actually walk the length of themselves with buggies and children in tow and god forbid a child who actually is allowed to walk a bit them selves.

If the schools were not surrounded with a barracade of cars more people would feel confident to let older children walk themselves.

I cannot believe that there is not one place to park within a ten minute walk of your school. Even a five minute walk is about a half a mile.

The lines are there because it is dangerous.

I am sorry but I do think it is idle, and it is ignorant because people who do this because of convenience put lives of pedestrians and other drivers at risk...period.

Think about life without your Lo's for one whole minute...
...and consider building in ten minutes extra to make school gates safe.

I drive to our school 2 days a week when dd2 goes to nursery as it is outside the town and too far to walk. I am 9 months pregnant and always WANT to park outside the school on the double yellows but don't I go round the corner in the public car park and take younger dd out and carry her. It is a fag but I have got used to it.

When new baby is born to be honest I will probably park on the double yellows and leave baby in car rather than drag him/her out.

Will see if I can be fagged to get both little ones out and walk up the hill to the school. I am guessing I won't. Will have to add the parking tickets on to the new baby expenses. I don't know I might try and get dh to take dd to school as he works from home and then he won't have to take the little ones with him.

I appreciate the point about it being dangerous with lots of cars around at pick upt points with all the kids milling about. The public car park is the same though as all the parents park there so kids and cars generally milling and in each others way....
